The cooperative principle is when participants expect


that each will make a “conversational contribution
such as is required, at the stage at which it occurs, by
the accepted purpose or direction of the talk
exchange.”

H.P. Grice (1975)

‘soften’ their magnitude of their speeches.

something or someone by using Hard

Humor is a means to make someone feel happy


through the expressions or utterances. Humor
called as a result of violating cooperative
principle since it doesn’t express something
explicitly. Means that it violates maxims of
quality and quantity as well.

and doesn’t look fresh.
