ENABLING OBJECTIVES

 Define and relate cross-curricular

connections to the K to 12
curriculum framework

 Capacitate teachers in creating an

interactive and engaging lesson for
both face-to-face and digital
learning environments.

K to 12 Science
Curriculum Framework

 learner-centered and inquiry-based

 emphasizes the use of evidence in

constructing explanations

K to 12 Science
Curriculum Framework

 Concepts and skills in the different

science subjects are presented with
increasing levels of complexity from
one grade level to another in spiral
progression
 Thus, paving the way to a deeper
understanding of core concepts.

K to 12 Science
Curriculum Framework

 The integration across science

topics and other disciplines will lead
to a meaningful understanding of
concepts and its application to real-
life situations

Cross-Curricular Connections -
Defined
 "...a conscious effort to apply knowledge,
principles, and/or values to more than one
academic discipline simultaneously. The
disciplines may be related through a central
theme, issue, problem, process, topic, or
experience." (Jacobs, 1989).
 INTERDISCIPLINARY - connections between two
or more areas of study that are made by teachers
within the structure of their disciplines

Cross-Curricular Connections

 Curriculum connections make

learning more
meaningful for students

 When students see the connections

between individual subject areas,
the material becomes more relevant

Four Ways to Integrate Lessons

There are four ways that cross-

curriculum units can be designed:

 parallel integration
 infusion integration
 multidisciplinary integration
 transdisciplinary integration

DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION- SDO Ilocos Sur

Parallel Curriculum Integration

 teachers from different subject

areas focus on the same theme
with varying assignments
 Combining Lessons
This type of instruction is beneficial
because teachers can maintain a
high degree of control over their
daily lesson plans
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION- SDO Ilocos Sur
Infusion Curriculum Integration

 occurs when a teacher infuses

other subjects into daily lessons

 Complete Control
the subject area teacher maintains
complete control over the material
taught.

Multidisciplinary Curriculum
Integration

 two or more teachers of different

subject areas agree to address the
same theme with a common project
 Integration Required
This type of integration requires a
high degree of teacher commitment,
which works great when there is high
enthusiasm for the project
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION- SDO Ilocos Sur
Transdisciplinary Curriculum
Integration

 the most integrated of all types of

curricular integration

 two or more teachers share a

common theme that they present to
the students in an integrated
fashion

DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION- SDO Ilocos Sur

Transdisciplinary Curriculum
Integration

 The teachers write shared lesson

plans and team teach all the
lessons, weaving the subject areas
together
 Combining Forces
This will only work well when all
teachers involved are committed to
the project and work well together

2. Create a concept map
3. Integrate those subjects
4. Plan thematic units
5. Combine lessons
6. Engage in project-based learning
7. Collaborate with other teachers
