QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION

1. What is an integrated curriculum?

 An integrated curriculum is a teaching approach that combines multiple academic

subjects or disciplines into a cohesive and unified curriculum. It aims to connect
different areas of knowledge and emphasize the relationships between them, rather
than treating them as isolated subjects.

2. What are the different approaches, models and types of curriculum

integration?

 The different approaches to integration and these are multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary

and transdisciplinary. The models of curriculum integration are Project-Based
Learning, Service Learning, Learning Centers/Parallel Disciplines, Theme –Based,
and Fusion. The types of curriculum integration are Connected, Sequenced, Shared,
and Webbed.

3. How can you apply integration along with multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary

and transdisciplinary approaches?

 Multidisciplinary approach with integration: as a future teachers can use subject

integration to teach multiple subjects simultaneously, allowing students to see the
connections between them. Interdisciplinary approach with integration: as a future
teachers can use theme integration to incorporate various subjects around a theme or
topic, allowing students to explore the connections between themTransdisciplinary
approach with integration: as a future teachers can use problem-based integration to
teach through real-world problems or scenarios that cross disciplinary boundaries. In
all of these approaches, integration helps students to see the connections between
different subjects and how they relate to the real world, while multidisciplinary,
interdisciplinary, and transdisciplinary approaches help students to understand the
complex relationships between disciplines and how they can be applied to solve real-
world problems. By combining these approaches, teachers can create a holistic and
engaging learning experience for their students.

4. Which curriculum integration approach would best suit to the different types of

learners in diverse classroom contexts?

 I chose project-based learning, because project-based learning allows students to

work collaboratively on open-ended questions and real-life problems, which
encourages them to make connections among different subject areas and apply critical
thinking and problem-solving skills. Additionally, project-based learning often
incorporates multiple learning styles, such as visual, auditory, and kinesthetic, which
can help students with different preferences engage with the material.

Assessment in project-based learning often focuses on teamwork, critical thinking

skills, problem-solving, and time management, which are important skills for success in
both academic and real-world settings. By providing students with opportunities to
engage in project-based learning and other curriculum integration approaches,
teachers can help students develop a range of skills and knowledge that will prepare
them for success in the future.

5. In what lessons or course disciplines is integrated curriculum most

appropriate?

 An integrated or interdisciplinary curriculum (IC) is an effective and relevant way to

teach 21st century skills and apply the transdisciplinary skills needed to solve complex
global problems.

An integrated curriculum also allows students to make connections across disciplines

and in their own lives. When students make these connections and understand why
they need certain skills or knowledge, the learning process becomes positive for
students.

Integrated curricula are necessary to ensure student success in the classroom. Higher
student achievement through repetition and making critical connections to content, as
well as greater student engagement, are all benefits of an integrated curriculum.
