Conditional
sentence
 Conditional sentence are sentences
expressing factual implications, or
hypothetical situation and their
consequences.

(kalimat pengandaian/kalimat bersyarat yang digunakan

untuk menyatakan sesuatu yang mungkin terjadi atau tidak
mungkin terjadi seperti yang diharapkan)
Ciri-Ciri Conditional Sentence
◎ Terdiri dari subordinate clause (anak kalimat) dan
main clause (induk kalimat)
◎ Digunakannya kata if dalam sub clause(anak
kalimat), karena clause ini diawali oleh if maka
disebut if clause
◎ Terbagi menjadi 3 type
Type 1 Type 2 Type 3

Formula : If simple pesent, simple future or

PRESENT UNREAL CONDITION
Formula : If simple past, simple past future or
simple past future if simple past.

(S + V2 + O) ( S +WOULD + V1 + O)
Example :
a. If you were a rose, I would be a bee.
Fact : you aren’t a rose so I am not a bee.

b. He would study in Australia if he got scholarship.

Fact : he doesn’t study in Australia because he
doesn’t get scholarship.

c. If they were here now, we could go together.

Fact : they aren’t here now so we don’t go
together.
 Type 3
PAST UNREAL CONDITION
(keadaan yang tidak real dimasa datang)

Formula : If past perfect, past future perfect or

past future perfect if past perfect

(S + HAD + V3 + O) (S + WOULD + HAVE + V3 +

O)
Example :
a. If he had passed the test, he would have worked in
that company.
Fact : he didn’t pass the test so he didn’t work in
that company.

b. You would have been happy if he hadn’t cancelled

his invitation.
Fact : you weren’t happy because he cancelled his
invitation.

c. If she had not been sick yesterday, she would have

come to the party.
Fact : she was sick yesterday so she didn’t come to
the party.
