Safe Work Procedures

1. Apply lifting permit before start work


a. Application for a lifting work permit be
made prior to commencement of
works by engineer or job supervisor
b. Before the issuance of any lifting
permit, the work location must be
inspected by safety supervisor
together with the lifting supervisor to
ensure the work location, LM, LG & LA
is safe to carry out lifting works.
c. Upon approval of lifting work permit , a Apply and display permit
copy of permit must be displayed at before start work
the work location.
d. Periodic checks should be conducted
by lifting supervisor to ensure that the
lifting permit is strictly adhered to.

2. Only certified crane operators, appointed


lifting supervisor, rigger and signalman shall
be allowed to perform lifting works.

3. The crane must be less than 15 years old


and PE certificate validity must be 6 months Engage Lifting Supervisor
for LTA projects and 1 year for other projects and Rigger & Signalman

4. Lifting Supervisor and rigger signalman to be
identified by their attire as per the in house
requirements.

5. The crane access to be checked by the site


engineer. To use steel plates for hard core and earth
surfaces. For mobile cranes, out rigger must be fully
extended and supported on steel plates.

6. Tower / Mobile / crawler crane operator to precheck


the crane daily before starts actual lifting operation is Outrigger must be fully
carried out with record. extended .

7. The swing alarm, reverse alarm, marching alarm and


various lighting arrangements must be in good
working condition.

8. Daily crane operator check list to be endorsed by the


L.S .

9. All lifting gears to be checked for valid certificate,


color coded and checked by rigger before use.

10. Effective Communications between crane operator,


LS, R & S is required at all times.

11. Cordon off the lifting danger zone and display the
required warning sign boards around the lifting zone. Color code to be
followed.
12. Load chart to be available inside the cabin and lift
the load according to the manufacturers
recommendations

13. Crane operator to stop the crane if over loaded or


the limit switches, load radius indicator and any
other safety devices are not functioning effectively.

14. Crane operation must be stopped during heavy


wind, heavy raining or lightening.

15. Rigger to select and use correct type and capacity of


lifting gear to lift the load.

16. Secure all loads and use tag line to control
