SPEED (1 Point)
“Speed is a VECTOR quantity.”

TRUE OR FALSE
SPEED (2 Points)

“What is the SI unit of speed?”

SPEED (3 Points)

Complete the equation:

Speed = ?
?
SPEED (4 Points)
“Speed is the rate at which an
object covers distance”

TRUE or FALSE
SPEED (5 Points)

“Suppose a train travels a distance of

120 miles in 3 hours. What is the
average speed of the train in
miles/hour?”
VELOCITY (1 Point)

“Velocity is a VECTOR quantity.”

TRUE OR FALSE
VELOCITY (2 Points)

“What is the SI unit of vectors?”

VELOCITY (3 Points)
Complete the analogy:

Speed : Distance :: Velocity : ______

VELOCITY (4 Points)
“Velocity is the rate at which an
object changes its position”

TRUE OR FALSE
VELOCITY (5 Points)
“What is the velocity of a person
moving rapidly - one step forward
and one step back - always returning
to the original starting position?”
Acceleration (1 Point)

“Acceleration has a magnitude and a

direction.”

TRUE OR FALSE
Acceleration (2 Points)

“What is the SI unit of acceleration?”

Acceleration (3 Points)
Complete the statement:

“Acceleration is the ______ of

velocity over time.”
BONUS QUESTION (1 pt) for
ACCELERATION

Change of velocity = ?
Acceleration (4 Points)
“The direction of the acceleration does not
have to be the same as the direction of the
velocity.”

TRUE OR FALSE
Acceleration (5 Points)
“A sports car is travelling at a constant
velocity vi = 5.00 m/s. The driver steps on the
gas, and the car accelerates forward. After
10.0 seconds, the driver stops accelerating
and maintains a constant velocity vf = 25.0
m/s. What was the car’s acceleration?.”
UNIFORM VS. NON-UNIFORM
ACCELERATION
NON-UNIFORM ACCELERATION
• Non uniform acceleration means that the
acceleration of an object is not constant,
but either increasing or decreasing over a
passage of time, as shown in the diagram above.
UNIFORMLY ACCELERATED
MOTION (UAM)
• Uniform acceleration means that the
acceleration of the car remains the same over a
period of time.
• It means that the acceleration is constant, and
neither increasing nor decreasing.
UAM:
HORIZONTAL AND VERITCAL
DIMENSIONS
Other Examples of UAM in Real Life
• A ball rolling down an incline
• A person falling from a plane
• A bicycle on which you have applied brakes
• A ball dropped from the top of a ladder
• A toy baby bottle released from the bottom of the bath tub
Assignment:
•Derive
the following equations on uniformly accelerated motion using
the equations for velocity, average velocity and acceleration.
