ABOUT BIRDS IN DELHI
 THERE ARE ABOUT 9000 BIRD SPECIES OUT OF WHICH 900 SPECIES
OF BIRDS ARE FOUND IN DELHI.

Common Birds found in delhi


Pavo
Commonly known as peacock or peafowl. It is large in size and has beautiful
green and blue feathers with round spots. It can fly to a limited extent. The
female is smaller, dull colored and train of tail feather. Pavo is the national bird
of India.

Myna
Mynas are medium-sized passerines with strong feet. They eat insect
and fruit. Plumage is typically dark, often brown. Most species nest in
holes.
Psittacula
PSITTACULA IS COMMONLY KNOWN AS PARROT. IT HAS GREEN FEATHERS AND A RED BEAK. THE
FEMALES LAY EGGS AND ARE MORPHOLOGICALLY DISTINCT FROM THE MALES DUE TO THE
ABSENCE OF BLACK RING ON THEIR NECK.

Passer
Passer is the common house sparrow. The female is morphologically distinct from male as
it does not bear a black band on its neck unlike the males. It lays 2–4 eggs in a nest and
incubates them. It is the state bird of delhi.

Eudynamys
Also known as koel, the female is known to lay eggs in the crow’s nest and hence is a
brood parasite. The male is of black color, while the female is brown having white spots.
It is also known as Indian nightingale because of its melodious call.
COLUMBA
COLUMBA OR PIGEON IS A VERY COMMON GREY COLORED BIRD. AT THE
BASE OF THE UPPER BEAK, TWO NOSTRILS ARE PRESENT.

TYTO
This genus includes all barn owls, while bay owls belong to the genus
Phodilus. They have a heart-shaped facial disc, and many peculiar
features such as forward facing eyes with binocular vision, predatory in
feeding, noiseless flight.

MILVUS
Milvus genus includes all medium sized birds of prey, such as Milvusmigrans (black
kite), Milvusmilvus (red kite), etc. They are diurnal, that is active during the day, and
have an angled wing and distinctive forked tail.
