What is casework ?

 Social case work is a primary social work methodology which is concerned with
development of meaningful and thoughtful relationships between individuals and
promotes further sustaining human relations.
 Every individual has a different reaction to certain social, physical and economic
environments.
 The caseworkers approach is more of a humanistic approach, it is an endeavour
for helping the individuals who confront trouble in adapting to issues of everyday
life.
Objective

 The objective of casework is to build a good rapport with the client for a clear
overview to help them in order to comprehend and resolve the problems faced by
the individual and to prevent further problems from arising and also for
developing core assets.
Rationale

 This paper will provide a more streamlined perspective of how a casework is


carried out in an old age home setting and emotional involvement in controlled
manner in a case work proceeding while working with a group of people from old
age homes.
Literature Review

 Casework in itself is a tricky task because it’s not easy to create a rapport with a
client overnight, it takes a lot of time and continuous approach in a friendly
manner for the client to open up and share very personal and private information
which may or may not cause some level of distress for the client and the social
worker has to deal with the outcomes whether positive or negative.

Geriatrics and social work

 “According to International federation of social workers [IFSW 2014], ‘Social work is a practice based
profession and an academic discipline that promotes social change and development, social cohesion,
and the empowerment and liberation of people. Principles of social justice, human rights, collective
responsibility and respect for diversities are central to social work. Underpinned by theories of social
work, social sciences, humanities and indigenous knowledge, social work engages people and
structures to address life challenges and enhance well-being’.”
Advantages and disadvantages of living at
an old age home
 Advantages: comfort, quick medical help, safety, companionship.

 Disadvantages: lack of privacy, homely feeling, emotional problems, expenses.

 Field experience.
Role of a geriatric social worker

 The part of a social worker in geriatrics is that of a catalysts, to make certain facilities accessible
for the ageing population, to resolve their inquiries, especially regarding healthcare facilities.
One such idea of promoting anywhere and anytime medical facility is to come up with a mobile
medical treatment system.
 Development of psycho-social clinical treatments and facilitate them in many centres for easy
access.
 Implementation of social work methods, models, approaches to come up with a specialty
treatment technique.
 Capacity building programs at the retirement home.
 Keep them engaged in variety of activities, learning, etc.
 Look out for government programs that help old pensioners, also help them get the pension that’s
wedged.
 Boost Quality of life and Rounded Well-being.
Conclusion

 There is more degree for geriatric social work because of mass life span. The
social work needs to recharge their centre capabilities to meet political, monetary
and psychosocial results. Geriatric social specialists must be prepared to develop
and actualize proper arrangements, which will guarantee heightened personal
satisfaction. The deficiency of HR formal and casual carers must be prepared to
fill the hole in benefit conveyance. The government, nongovernment, corporate
organisations must work on meeting challenges in elderly with difficult
circumstances like dementia, stoke etc.
