What is Tree Topology

A tree topology is a special type of structure where many connected

elements are arranged like the branches of a tree. For example, tree
topologies are frequently used to organize the computers in a corporate
network, or the information in a database.

In a tree topology, there can be only one connection between any two
connected nodes. Because any two nodes can have only one mutual
connection, tree topologies create a natural parent and child hierarchy.
Where is tree topology used?
Tree topology is suitable for large
networks, spread into many branches like
big university campuses, hospitals etc.

Tree topology based networks are not

suitable for small networks because of the
requirement for additional devices and
cables.
So how does it works universities, hospitals etc?

This topology is very useful for your organizations if you have small departments and even
sub-departments. Similarly, if you have a multi-floor team placements then it can be best
choice for you.

Majority of offices are sub-divided into departments and sub-departments. So, you can
segregate whole Tree Network by using multiple Switches. This makes the whole Network
Tree more manageable and easy to maintain.

Suppose that Server wants to communicate with Node I. Server will encapsulate data
message and the destination address. After this encapsulation, it will transmit the signal on
Backbone Cable. Encapsulated package will move towards both branches of the Bus
Backbone Network.

topologies.
What makes tree topology unique?

Compared to other network setups is that only one connection exists between any two connected
nodes. Since any two items only have that one mutual connection, it creates a parent-child
hierarchy in the system.

The tree topology creates an extension for star and bus topologies. That means it can connect
these independent networks to a larger, system-wide design that still maintains the hierarchical
structure that some businesses require. If several star or bus topologies already exist, then a tree
topology can form by running a single backbone cable that connects them all.

The hybrid approach between the bus and star designs enable you to work with a variety of
vendors and equipment providers. It opens more doors for your maintenance personnel to access
the hardware needed to maintain the system adequately without much effort. This allows you to
enhance the future expandability of the network because it eliminates the issues in traffic
broadcasting and hub point limitations.
