24.06.2021 FRS flagship project: Next steps
FRS: Flagship Project „GHG mitigation in cattle farming - how much is
possible where and what are the economic implications on-farm?”

• Aim: identify the most cost-effective managerial and technological GHG

mitigation options at farm-level per region
• Species: cattle (cow-calf and beef finishing), possibly sheep, if critical mass
• Countries: South America, Asia, Africa + North America and Europe as a low
emission benchmark
• Production systems: grazing, silage and grainfed
• Strategies compared with Baseline: locally adapted mitigation practices (best
management)
• Outputs: Performance, Economics, GHG emissions, other indicators like
adoption barriers, financial needs, side effects

Economic analysis

1. Idea: use existing agri benchmark infrastructure, methods and tools

2. Precondition: comparability / harmonization of GHG calcs is required

3. Consequence: obtain overview of GHG mitigation studies (partially completed)

4. Proposal: link with the survey performed by Daniel Bretscher from Agroscope

5. Implementation options:
a. link existing agri benchmark data sets with existing emission data
b. create completely new data sets using the existing GHG case studies
and insert data in agri benchmark or other tools

agri benchmark Trainings

1. agri benchmark runs a training on result data bases and GHG emission tool on

Thursday 18th November, most likely 13:00 CEST

FRS members and other interested people are welcome to join

2. An additional training on the methods (standard operating procedure) and the

data collection in our questionnaire will be offered on request.
