Introduction
Background!
Nowadays manufacturing companies
must develop their systems
performance to the higher productivity
level. There are many manufacturing
system indicators, three of them are
amount of output in a period of time,
process lead time, and work in process.
Those indicators will be viewed as a
result of production machine resources
allocation in each workstation.
Background!

● The case study taken is regarding the

production process brake drum coupling
for motorcycle
● It has problems to get better results based
on target production.
● It consists of machining and finishing
processes. The stages of the production
process are part arrival, turning, drilling,
milling, inspecting, grinding.

Simulation
Simulation is the imitative representation of the functions and operation of a real-world
system or process over a specified period of time. It involves generating an artificial history of a
system and observing the artificial history to infer operating characteristics of the real system.

Simulation Study Process

1. Problem statement formulation
2. Defining objectives
3. Identifying constraints

4. Setting scope and level of detail.

Queueing Theory
Queuing theory is the science of queuing form which is an important part of operations
and is also a very valuable tool for operations managers to determine strategy (Heizer and
Render, 2011). Queuing theory aims to design a queuing system that can be made by
organizations to work optimally based on several criteria, one of which is to maximize profits
by minimizing costs.

Characteristics of Queueing System

1. Size or Population of Arrival
2. Arrival Behavior
3. The pattern of arrival

Conceptual Model of Brake Drum Coupling
Production Process

This model aims to show the flow production system of brake drum coupling in real time
so the initial model or scenario can be designed easier.
Initial Scenario (Scenario 1)
Setup Run for Running the
program
Input Data Analyzer
This is the example of input anaylizer for Part Arrival Time

As seen in from the picture,

the expression of part
arrival time is NORM(7.42,
2.16). The expression is then
used in order to fill in the
parameters of Arena Model
Queue of Initial Scenario (Scenario 1)
Analyze
For the queue time of the model
simulation is not affect signigicantly. The
waiting time of each process is average
under 1 minutes and it makes the waiting
time not affect the process
Analyzis

In the arena model obtained, it can be seen for the resource results in the form of
utilization, busy number and scheduled number. The utilization of each machine is
still around 0.20-0.40 which indicates that the machines are still not working
optimally. For the busy number from the arena model obtained for the average of
each process below 1 person, which means that at least the production of 1
product requires 1 worker.
Analyzis

Based on the total number, which is seen in the

range of 13-40, it shows that the performance
of each engine is still not burdened and can
still be improved again.

Scenario 2 Scenario 3
Analysis

Similar with first scenario, the queue

time of the simulation model for
scenarios 2 and 3 also does not
significantly affect the process and the
obtained queuing model which can be
improved later.
Scenario 2 Scenario 3
Analysis
For scenario 3 this is not much
It can be seen in scenario 2 that the

utilization in this model is around
utilization is around 0.30-0.70.
0.40-0.60 which shows the

and will depend on the half width
and effectiveness obtained.
Scenario 2 Scenario 3
Conclusion
Best Alternative
Scenario

● Best Alternative Scenario: ● The use of each resource is evenly

● The number seized is larger than from the half widht in scenario 2 lower.
initial scenario and scenario 3 because
of the output is more effective with

queue is not too significantly different
