The substance immediately after entering into the body causes the vitiation of the
healthy dhatus or killing of the healthy person is defined as visa

Ingrediants :
Sindhuvara – vitex negundo
Sveta girikarnika- clitoria ternatea
Fresh juice of roots of sinduvarita and sveta girikarnikaconsumed along mixed with honey
Used as nasal drops
Indication – in case of bite by hooded snake and pakala ( kustha )
If bitten by black snakes, blood should be removed and smeared with paste of carati and
nakuli or of any strong poisonous root and made to drink ghee mixed with honey, manjistha
and grhadhuma.
TANDULAKYADI AGADAM :

Tanduliyaka – embelia ribes
Kasmarya – gmelina arborea
Kinihi – achyranthes aspera
Girikarnika – clitoria ternatea
Matulunga – citrus medica
Selu – cordia dichotoma
Mode of administration: used for drinking, nasal drops, and collyrium
Indication :cures poison of darvikara snakes and also rajimata snakes .

INDICATION :
• Slesmataka,katphala,matulunga,sveta,girikarnika,kinihi,sarkara
and tanduliya
• Indication : chief remedy of the poisoning by bites of darvikara and
rajimat snakes
ASTANGA AGADAM :
Ingrediants : a.h.u.36[66-67]
Vamsa – bambusa bambos
Katuka – picrorhiza kurroa
Patali – sterospermum chelonoides
Nagara - zingiber officinale
Sirisa – albizia lebbeck
Ativisa – aconitum heterophyllum
Gaveduka –coix lacryma
Vaca – acorus calamus
these ingredients are macerated in cow’s urine and consumed internally.
Indication : cures the poison of gonasa snake (cross breed)
KADUKATI
Ingrediants : a.h.u.36[67-68]
Katuka – picrorhiza kurroa
Ativisa –aconitum heterophylum
Grahadhuma -
Harenuka - pisum sativum
Vyosa –piper longum
Tagara –senna tora
These are made into paste and consumed mixed with honey
Indication : destroys the poison of rajimata snakes.
SARVAKARMIKA AGADA :
• Nrkesa(human hair),pitasarsapa and jirnaguda - are used for fumigation and is best for
the bite by all poisonous insects .

• Equal quantities of tanduliyaka and trivrit should be consumed mixed with ghee ,such a
person doesnot get shaken by the poison of insects just as the mountain kailasa by the
wind .

• Application of paste of bark of trees of milky sap on the site of bite after the person
has undergone purificatory therapies ,destroysthe poison of insects .

• Application of paste of mukta (pearl) is best to cure swelling , pricking pain, burning
and fever.
DASANGA AGADAM:
Site of scorpion bite should be bathed with cakra taila (warm)or by oil boiled with
drugs of vidarigandhagna or any other which is slightly warm or with warm ghee added
with lavanottama( saindhava salt)or with rice gruel added with milk and salt .

• Ghee mixed with honey or milk added with more of sugar are best for
drinking .
• The patient who becomes unconscious, breathes heavily,talks irrevently and has severe
pain should be anointed with the paste of pathya, nisa ,krsna ,manjistha ,ativisa,usana
and alabu vrnta macerated with juice of vartaka.

• In severe case of poisoning, the patient should be made to drink dadhi (curd)and
sarpi(ghee) ;vein should be cut and blood let out emesis ,collyrium and nasal medication
should be administered partake food which is warm , unctuous,sour,swet and mutigating
vata .

• Nagara, excreta of domestic pigeon, haritala and saindhava ,macerated in the juice
of bijapura;this agada immediately destroys the poison of the scorpion .

• Mushrom growing on elephant’s dung and roots of rohisa ,are made into paste with
water of selu and then rolled into pills . This is best to remove poison of scorpion
etc .by external application.

• Seeds of sirisa soaked and macerated for three times in the milky sap of arka and then
mixed with pippali ;this agada destroys the poison of insects,snakes,spider,mice and
scorpion.

• In vrishchika(scorpion) sting fomentation , massage with ghee and
salt , hot sprinkling and food and beverages with ghee shall be
used .
• PADMAKA AGADA : TREATMENT OF SPIDER BITE :

• Phalini , the two nisa ,honey and ghee are made into a paste and rolled into
pills, this is known as padmaka agada bestows all the good effects in poison
of spiders and insects of all kinds .
• CAMPAKA AGADA :

• The two haridra,pattanga,manjistha,nata ,kesara,honey and ghee converted
into pills ;this is known campaka agada is more efficient .
MANDARA AGADA AND GANDHAMADANA AGADA :
• a.h.u.37/73-74
• 1.hribera,vikankata,gopakanya,musta,sami,candana,,tntuka,saivala
,nilotpala,vakra, yathi, tvak,nakuli,padmaka and seeds of ratha
• 2.rajani,ghana,sarpalochana,kanasunthi,kanamula,citraka,varuna,a
guru,bilva,patola,picumanda,Amaya,selu and kesara.
• 3.bilva,candana,nata,utpala,sunthi,pippali,nicula,vetasa,kustha,sukt
i,sakavara,patoli,bhargi,sinduvara,karaghata,and varangam.
• These three efficacious recipes described are used as
drinking,collyrium,nasal medications,external appliocation and
bathing
• It cures the poison of spider predominant of vata,pitta and kapha
respectively ..

• Roots of sindhuvara,bones of the cat ,visa and nata ,made into paste with water and
used as nasal medication etc destroys the poison of rats . A.h.u. 38/32
SARVAKAMIKA AGADA :
• Vishaghna yogas mentioned in charaka samhitha are useful in treating the harmful
effects of such chemicals and toxins and also useful in other fatal poisoning
• There are 136 drugs having vishaghana karama mentioned in bhava prakasha
nighantu
CONCLUSION
• Ayurveda advocates use of certain visa dravya as medicament . Guna and action of
these visa dravyas are well documented in classical texts of Ayurveda .
• The drug of choice for management of poison depends upon a physician verdict
and studies are required to establish the vishaghna action of these drugs .
