denser textures, and wider ranges
of pitch. It was a time when

The Romantic movement (1800-1900)

movement that started in the second
half of the 18th century as ideas spread

countries. People at that time were
rebelling against social and political
standards of the classical era. They
believed in expressing their
imaginations and passion through their
artworks including literature, arts,
education, and music.

These characteristics include themes that focused on national identity;

the strange, and surprising; spiritual experiences and subjectivism. During
the Romantic era, musicians started new ways for expressing music like
lengths of composition, harmony and tonal relationships.

Another form of music is the art song, a composition for solo


voice and piano that gives premium on symbolic meanings
attached on the lyric. The German word for an artsong is
LIED which is commonly used for German text.
Composers also use the strophic form which uses the same
music for each stanza of the poem. the strophic form is
almost always used in all folk songs.

counterpart. here are some of its elements.Poetry was
converted into a form that may be emotionalized
through music.

compositions. Composers explored the expression of
feelings like flamboyanCe and intimacy, unpredictability,
longing, and rapture.

Program music is a form of instrumental music of a narrative
and descriptive kind that is intended to express a story of
images that depict the theme and scenes in a literary text.

Program music refers to the romantic period European musical


work.The term was introduced by Franz Liszt, Who defined it as
a program preface added to a piece of instrumental music to
direct the listener's attention to the poetical idea of the whole
or a particular part of it.
