What are collocations?
• a combination of two or more words
• “She’s got yellow hair”.
• “She’s got blond hair”.
Collocations
adjective + noun blond hair
verb + noun arouse someone’s interest
adverb + adjective fundamentally different
adverb + verb flatly contradict
noun + noun a team of experts, words of
wisdom
Why learn collocations?
• use words accurately

• sound natural, like fluent user

• exploit wider range of language
