GRAPHIC INTERPRETATION
Interpretation refers to students' abilities
to read a graph both locally and globally
and give it a meaning.

 The elementary level: It involves the


extraction of data or the reading of
isolated points.
 The intermediate level: Concerns the
detection of trends observed in
determined intervals of the graphs.
 The highest level: It is a deep
understanding of the structure of the
data and its behavior.

 According to the diagram, the average

 The red line represents the increase in
cancer cases.
 The Y-axis is sales, the X-axis is
months of the year.
 A small percentage of the respondents
were European.
 The blue bars show the range of single
women.

PIE CHART EXAMPLE:

 The importer Imcruz wants to know the


brands most preferred by customers
when choosing a car.
 A survey of 300 people was done and
the results show in the graph that 22%
of customers prefer the Nissan brand,
followed by Mazda with 17% and
Chevrolet with 16%.
 And due to maintenance costs, the
least preferred brands are Cadillac with
11%, Pontiac and Porsche with 10%.

HISTOGRAM EXAMPLE:
 As you can see, this graph represents
the total expenses of 50 families in a
weekend.
 Firstly, it shows the accumulated
frequencies of spending, being the
mean of these expenses $ 145.
 The chart also shows that thirty
families spend less than $ 150 and
only twenty families spend almost 200
dollars in a weekend.
 Only five families, who represent 10%,
are the ones that spend an average
amount of $ 199.

HORIZONTAL BAR CHART EXAMPLE:

 A survey done by the distributor SBK,


asked 145 people: "What do you think
is the best fruit?“
 The data in the graph shows that the
most valued options are: the apple
with 35 votes, the orange with 30
votes and in the first place the
blueberry with 40 votes.
 The results also show kiwi as the least
valued options with only 25 votes,
second place to banana with 10 votes
and lastly to grapes with 5 votes.

VERTICAL BAR CHART EXAMPLE:
 A bar chart is a graphical display of
data using bars of different heights. It
can be presented vertically or
horizontally.
 For an after school outing, the
students of sixth grade were asked
about their favorite genre of movies.
 In this graph we can see that most of
the students prefer the romance
genre, representing 30% of the class.
 And the least preferred genres are
comedy, drama and fiction, with 4, 1
and 4 votes respectively.

LINE CHART EXAMPLE:
 The Liverpool company presented a
comparative report of sales for April
and May, expressed in millions of
dollars.
 On May 2, the highest sales were
recorded, reaching a peak of 18 million
dollars.
 However, the following days showed a
decrease in May sales.
 We can conclude by saying that April
sales exceeded the projections for the
first ten days, obtaining a mean higher
than the sales of May.

SPIDER CHART EXAMPLE:
 They are common for cases of analysis
of results, where each variable has a
maximum.
 In this case, the graph shows the
number of shipments of products to
other countries during 2011 and 2012.
 In 2011, more products were sent to
Germany and China, while in 2012 more
products were sent to Japan, China and
United States. The lines closer to the
center represent the countries to which
the least products were sent, and they
are France in 2011, and Brazil in 2012.
