Pilimathalawa is a suburb of the


city of Kandy in Kandy
District, Sri Lanka. The town
is situated 10 km away from
Kandy .
The meaning of Thalawa is the
flat area in Sinhalese. Pilima
means the statues.

EMBEKKA DEVALAYA
Embekka Devalaya was built by the King Vikramabahu III of Gampola Era in Sri
Lanka. The Devalaya is dedicated to Load Katharagama.
 It is mostly popular due to the Amazing Wood Carvings in the Devalaya. Many
local and foreign tourists visit this place due to its specialty.

GADALADENIYA TEMPLE
Gadaladeniya Temple is an ancient Buddhist temple situated in Pilimathalawa
which was built by King Buwanekabahu IV of Gampola Era. 
It’s main attraction is the statue of Lord Buddha. It is also very popular among local
and foreign tourists.

LANKATHILAKA TEMPLE
Lankathilaka Temple was built by King Bhuvanekabahu IV in 14th century.
The temple was built in top of a massive rock. Many local and foreign devotees
visit this place everyday.

CAPTAIN DOWSEN TOWER
Captain William Francis Dawson initiated the construction of the Colombo-Kandy
road project in 1820.
Unfortunately, he died on 28 March 1829. To show Gratitude to his work, this
Tower was constructed by the British.

GIRAGAMA TEA PLANTATION
Giragama is one of the premium tea plantations near Kandy. When Sri Lanka was a
British colony (from 1815 to 1948), the island’s name was Ceylon.
In the beginning of British rule, tea plants were introduced to the island in hopes of
creating a successful export industry.
