FOR EXAMPLE, NON-WHITE PEOPLE HAD TO LIVE OUTSIDE TOWNS AND CITIES IN POOR AREAS CALLED TOWNSHIPS. PEOPLE WERE SEGREGATED IN PLACES LIKE STADIUMS, PARKS, PUBLIC TOILETS, AND ON BUSES AND TRAINS. THEY ALSO HAD TO GO TO DIFFERENT SCHOOLS
It was difficult for non-whitepeople to get good
jobs, and many were poor.This racist system was called apartheid. Moreand more people protested against it. Some, LIKE NELSON MANDELA, WERE SENT TO PRISON FOR ALONG TIME. IN 1990 MANDELA WAS RELEASED FROM PRISON. APARTHEID WAS ENDED, AND IN 1994 HECAME PRESIDENT OF SOUTH AFRICA.
