Introduction
• The Khasi are indigenous or
tribal people.
• Majority live in the state of
Meghalaya
• Lived in hilly areas of sylhet.
 Origin & History
Hajom Kissor Sing Lyngdoh Nongbri
is the founder of khasi Tribe.
khasis were came from Myanmar and
settled down in the plains of east
Assam. Khasis had own kingdom but
the British exercised them they defeated
by British in Anglo khasi war. Now
about 1.1 Million khasi people lived in
Meghalaya and 29,000 people lived in
our country.
Genetics
Khasi people from different regions
have small, but noted differences.
Recent genetic researches have
shown that Khasis are closer to
their Garo neighbors as compared
to other populations of Northeast
India.
Tradition & Culture

1. Khasi people follow their own

traditional religion professed by
indigenous inhabitants.
2. The other prominent feature of the
Khasi culture and society is its
traditional political system.
3. They celebrate their marriage
occasion traditionally.
4. They dressed traditionally.
5. And also they celebrate their
festive, by performing their
traditional dance.

Khasi Food

Staple food of the Khasis is Rice.

Apart from rice they take fish and
meat. On the ceremonial occasions
they love drinking Rice beer.
Khasi Marriage
The Khasi strictly follow an
exogamy marriage system. Marriag
e within the same clan is strictly
prohibited by Khasi law. They also
strictly follow a
local marriage system.
