PALAY MAIDEN
CONTEXTUAL ANALYSIS
The Palay Maiden is representative of Amorsolo's
ideal filipina beauty and also symbolic of the
Philippines most stable crop, which is grains
(palay). It portrays traditional filipino culture. It is
said that the harvest the smiling maiden is carrying
is symbolic to the hope for a rising nation.

FORMAL ANALYSIS
The Palay Maiden boasts is an oil painting of a
woman that has Filipina features that rejects
 Impressionism western ideals. The painting measure 60.3 cm
by 85.5 cm. The painting is very vibrant and
vivid as the maiden is happily smiling while
holding a harvest of grains (palay).

SPOLIARIUM
CONTEXTUAL ANALYSIS
Spoliarium by Filipino artist Juan Luna is a reflection of
the romantic period, It is commonly viewed as a visual
representation of the Filipinos' suffering during the
Spanish colonial period. Juan Luna's motivation for
painting Spoliarium was to awaken Filipinos from
ignorance, blindness, mental darkness, and persecution.

CONTEXTUAL ANALYSIS
Romanticism
Spoliarium is the largest painting in the Philippines,
measuring 4.22 meters by 7.675 meters, and the most
valued oil on canvas work by Juan Luna, The painter
used vibrant colors and warm hues, reds being the
most prominent.

THE TRANSFIGURATION

CONTEXTUAL ANALYSIS
The transfiguration is the reflection of the sculptor’s personal
struggles in life. The sculpture shows a body of Jesus where
his arm is open and looking at the sky that symbolizes that
Jesus is ready to give himself to the lord. The sculpture
symbolizes our great faith in God man’s highest inspiration.

FORMAL ANALYSIS

Modernism Napoleon Abueva use brass, copper, and stainless steel. For the art
element he used vertical lines for the body of Jesus and horizontal for
the arms of it. For the shape he uses organic because of the body of
the sculpture. The height of it is 33 feet high. The color use is light
gray and the form of it is in three dimensional.
