Rose M. Lopez Elementary School

Dual Language School Educating

Students in Grades K-3rd Grade
Vision Statement

:
:
• “our vision is that all students are active participants in their education and that with a differentiated
curriculum, the support of administration, and the knowledge put forth by the staff, reinforcement from
parents and ongoing participation from the community, every student has the ability to become a life-
long learner and leader.” (Nieves 1)
Mission Statement

“The mission of our Rose M. Lopez Dual Language

Elementary School is to foster a learning environment
in which the school community is fully vested in
developing a dual language program which ensures
students are bilingual/bi-literate and enjoy enhanced
cognitive skills which advance their academic careers
all the while growing their acceptance of multi-cultural
societies as they become global citizens.” (Nieves 1)
Strategy #1 High Expectations

• Students/Staff display positive behavior.

• School rules.

• Academic expectations.

• Building classroom culture.

• Collaborative Team Work.

Rationale- Creating high expectation sets the standard for the school. It lets students and staff members
know what is acceptable and what is not. High expectations helps to shape the school culture because it
sets the standard that students and staff should always try their best and model professional behavior.
Strategy # 2 Leading by Example

• Staff members will lead ethically

• Display professional behavior at all times
• Take responsibility for actions
• Support staff and students
• Collaborate with all members of the school community
• Value each other
• Listen effectively

• Rationale- Leading by example will help accomplish goals in the school vision and
mission because it will help create a positive learning environment. Leading by
example will provide students with model behavior that they will visualize
everyday and eventually display themselves which will help shape the school’s
culture.
Strategy # 3 Communicating the mission and vision statements with
Parents

• Develop frequent communication with parents for both positive or negative

behaviors.

• Collaborate with parents to help struggling students.

• Create school wide events for parent participation.

• Develop Parent Teacher Association.

• Accept and implement parent suggestions and feedback.

• Rationale- Communicating with parents will help increase the chances of

students succeeding academically and accomplishing the goals in the
schools vision and mission. It will also help create a sense of community
with teacher and parents working together to help students succeed.
Strategy #4 Communicating the mission and vision statements with
Students

• Praise student achievements and behavior.

• Implement student feedback and recommendations.

• Allow students to develop rules and procedures for school.

• Develop a Student Council.

• School wide reward system for positive behavior.

Rationale- Praising positive student behavior and achievements will help shape
the school culture. A student council will allow for students to take ownership
of the school and implement rules and procedures. This will allow for students
to feel supported and develop a sense pride.
Strategy #5 Communicating the mission and vision statements with
School Faculty

• Staff professional development.

• Acknowledging Staff members for efforts.

• Providing staff with resources needed to become successful.

• Listening and providing Support.

• Collaborate with staff members to help improve teaching strategies.

• Rationale- Staff professional development will help teachers develop new teaching strategies which will help students
accomplish school goals. Administrators that acknowledge staff members for daily efforts will help build staff morale
which will help to shape the school culture. Listening and providing staff members with support will develop a
relationship of appreciation and also increase staff morale.
Strategy #6 Policies/Procedures

• Knowledgeable of Code of Conduct.

• Decisions are aligned to district policies.

• Knowledgeable of Board of Education policies and procedures.

• Implementing policies and procedures in the classroom.

• Keeping up to date on new district and state policies and procedures.

Rationale- School faculty can help shape the school culture by being knowledgeable of district policies
and procedures. School faculty who are knowledgeable of policies and procedures will be less likely to
be found violating policies.
Strategy #7 Develop School Goals

• “Develop bilingual, biliterate, and bi-cognitive skills

in English and Spanish.” (Nieves 1)

• “Maintain high academic achievement at or above

grade level (in one or both languages). “(Nieves 1)

• “Celebrate, understand and appreciate other

Cultures.” (Nieves 1)

• Rationale- Accomplishing school goals will allow for

students to achieve the school vision and mission. It
will help students develop good character skills by
developing an understanding and appreciation for
other cultures. It will also help students develop two
languages in English and Spanish.
