Duties and Responsibilities
Master/ Captain – overall in command, overall in charge in
safety and security of the crew, vessel and cargo. He is in
charged that all international and local laws are followed
properly.
Chief Officer/Mate – responsible for the safety and security
of the ship as well as welfare of the crew. In-charge of
cargo operation.
2nd Officer/Mate – navigational officer, responsible in
navigational operation.
3rd Officer/Mate – in-charge of maintaining lifesaving
appliances and safety equipment, officer on watch
Duties and Responsibilities
Boatswain – also known as “Bosun”, senior deck
crew and responsible for deck maintenance.
Pumpman – responsible for cargo operation, loading
and discharging under the order of Chief Officer.
Able bodied Seaman/Quarter master – perform
general maintenance on deck and navigational
watch keeper with duty officer on watch.
Ordinary Seaman – performs a variety of duties on
deck areas.
Duties and Responsibilities
Chief Engineer – responsible for all operations and
maintenance in all engineering equipment. Head of
Engine Department.
2nd Engineer/1st asst Engr. – responsible for the planning
and organisation of the engine crew.
3rd Engineer/2nd asst Engr. – reports directly to 2nd Engr.,
engine room watch keeping officer and do
maintenance and repair onboard.
4th Engineer/3rd asst Engr. – responsible for the
operation of auxiliary machinery and assist 2nd Engr.
Duties and Responsibilities
Oiler/Motorman – or Greaser, responsible for
properly grease, lubricate and maintain engine
room machinery. Engine room watch keeper with
Engineer on watch.
Wiper – responsible for good housekeeping in
machinery spaces, assisting engineer as directed
Deck cadet – trainee/apprentice. Supervised under
Chief officer or Captain.
Engine cadet - trainee/apprentice. Supervised under
2nd Engr or Chief Engr and Licence engine officer.
Duties and Responsibilities
Marine Electrical Engineer is a vital positions in
the technical hierarchy of a ship and is
constrained by their assigned work under the
Chief Engineer`s overview. An ETO manages a
key role in the Senior Management Team and
reports directly to the Chief Engineer.
Fitters - are incharge of the repairing and fitting
of damaged ship parts on the ship decks.
Duties and Responsibilities
Chief Steward/Chief Cook – supervise and
coordinates activities in pantry, galley, store
room and non-cooking kitchen workers.
Keeping/maintaining cleanliness and
orderliness of catering department.
Messman – perform any following duties such as
setting tables, serving food, clean dishes and
equipment, make beds and clean quarters of
officer.
