FIRST AID ACCIDENTS

• Any injury that can be handled on the working site without


creating lost workdays is referred to as a first aid incident.

• Cleaning minor cuts, scrapes, or scratches, treating a minor


burn, putting bandages or dressings, and using a cold compress,
cold pack, ice bag, or splint are all examples of first-aid
treatments.

Burns and Scalds

First Scenario:
Your brother accidentally pours the boiling water over his
hands. What will you do?
First Aid Treatment
 First cool Affected Area
 Place the affected are on running water for about 10 mins and do not use cold water
 Cover cling film or plastic bag. Don’t burst blister.
 If severe seek medical attention

Choking

Second Scenario:
One of your schoolmates was choked while eating. What
will you do?
First Aid Treatment
 Consult your local directory
 Share your information when speaking to emergencies services specially your location
 Stand behind the person who is choking.
 Place your arms around their waist and bend them well forward.
 Clench one fist and place it just above the person's belly button.
 Place your other hand on top of your fist and pull sharply inwards and upwards.
 Repeat this up to five times.
 Repeat until cleared
 Wait for help to arrived

Drowning

Third Scenario:
One of your cousins was drowning and upon rescuing her
she not breathing. What will you do?
First Aid Treatment
 Consult your local directory
 Share your information when speaking to emergencies services especially your location
 Check responsive
 lay person on the back
 tilt head and check for breath
 look for the chest to rise and fall
 Do your CPR position
 Kneel next to the person
 Place over the center of chest, lock and raise fingers
 Lock elbows and position shoulder over the center of the chest
 Apply 2 pumps(120 pumps per min)2 inches deep(approx 6cm)
 Dont apply mouth to mouth unless trained
 If trained, remember its 30 chest compression followed by 2 breaths
 Wait for help to arrived

Bleeding

Fourth Scenario:
Your father has been cut with the knife while he is working
in your backyard. What will you do?
First Aid Treatment
 Consult your local directory
 Share your information when speaking to emergencies services especially your location
 Protect hands with gloves or plastic bags
 Apply pressure directly to the injury
 when bleeding is controlled wrap
 Raise injury above heart to slow blood flow
 Keep warm
 Wait for help to arrived

Broken bones

Fifth Scenario:
Your brother is playing basketball with his friends, while
running, he accidentally slipped and and maybe he even broke
a bone in his legs What will you do?
First Aid Treatment
 Consult your local directory
 Share your information when speaking to emergencies services especially your location
 Don't move injured are unless absolutely necessary
 Grab a soft item to help keep the injury still and supported
 Carefully place under the broken is to avoid movement
 Place ice in a bag
 Wrap in a cloth
 Apply around injury not on it
 Lie them comfortably
 Keep them warm
 Wait for help to arrive
