ABSTRACT
 The many oppurtunities offered by wearable computing have triggered the
imaginations of designers and researchers in a wide variety of fields.
 The inevitability of computers and interfaces which are small enough to be worn
on the human body has inspired the creation of devices and applications which can
assist with specialised professional and personal activities , as well as aiding and
augmenting everyday life in the modern world .
 In reality limitations imposed by factors such as battery life , processor  power ,
display brightness , network coverage and form factor have conspired to delay the
widespread introduction of wearable computers .
 Nevertheless over the past ten years there have been many
successful implementations and , as the relentless miniturisation of
computing devices continues , an increasing number of viable applications are
emerging .

Introduction

A wearable computer is a computing device small and light enough to

be worn on one's body without causing discomfort .
It has been developed for general or special purpose information
technologies and media development .
Unlike a laptop or a palmtop , wearable computer is constantly turned
on and interacts with the real-world task .
What is smartwatch?
The first SW is considered to be the IBM Linux Watch , launched in
2000 . During the past 15 years SWs have developed and now offer
greater functionality .
In 2012 the pebble smartwatch was launched on a crowd-
funding website and since then SWs have received growing
attention from the popular media .
Over the past two years more than 20SWs have been released , and
there is great anticipation for the apple watch due to be released in ealy
2015 .
History
The first digital watch , which debuted in 1972 , was the pulsar
manufactured by Hamilton Watch company .
"pulsar" became a brand name which would later be acquired by seiko in
1978 .
With the introduction of personal computers in the 1980s , seiko began to
develop computers in the form of watches .
The data 2000 watch came with an external keyboard for data-entry .
Data was synced from the keyboard to the watch via electro-
magnetic coupling .
Features of smart watch
 Smart Navigation:
• Smart watches use vibrations to help you navigate while walking .
• It makes hiking easier as one can find their way through the woods ,
mountains , and other areas .
• It reduces distractions since you don't have to keep checking the
screen every time .
Health and wellness:
• These features are very popular and are utilized by money people .
• They monitor the health and fitness of an individual .
• They include physical activity trackers that monitor your speed ,
distance , steps during running ,heart rate and sleep patterns.
Accessibility to phone Apps:
• Smartwatches are an in-between of a basic watch and smartphone .
• One can access information on their phone , such as emails , social
media platforms , messages , dates etc .
• You can entertain yourself from the watch wherever you are during
travels or any activity to kill boredom .
Search future:
• Many smartwatch apps allow you to connect your personal items like
car keys , phones and other electronic devices to the watch through
trackers .
• If one of your devices gets lost , you can use google assistant to locate
it .
 Time features:
• Essentially, smartwatches are smart devices .
• They serve as basic watches to tell time and have stopwatches and
alarm clocks .
 Communication feature:
• Users can make or receive calls through the watch , especially
when driving or during any physical activity without stopping .
• However , this is only possible if the smartwatch has a
cellular connection .
• They can also get messages and reply to them at any time when
they are far from their phones .
Applications
Augmented reality
Aiding the visually disabled
Brain gate interface
Data processing
Patient monitoring
Digital imaging
Remote guidance
Advantages

Portability
Hands free use
Comfortable
Always on the task it is designed
Quick to access
Fashionable
Conclusion

The vision behind the concept of a wearable computer is that a mobile

computer should not just be a machine that we put into our pocket when
we plan on doing some office work while on the road .
Instead it will be an integral part of our every day outfit(wearable) ,
always operational and equipped to assist us in dealing with a wide
range of situations .
