Making room for God
Bring attention to vs 46- And when he had sent them away, he
departed into a mountain to pray.
This was: Jesus , the son of god, our great intercessor.
Apart of the god head[father, son and the holy ghost]
Or any situation could be
With the snap of a finger he
want he wanted it to be
could get anything he want
-He made time to pray
• Making room for God: Jesus sent the disciples away so that he could
go alone to the mountainside and pray. Even with his busy schedule,
Jesus made spending time with God a top priority. The story reminds
us of the importance of setting aside room for God.
We’ll find ourselves in storms sometimes, at inconvenient
times and will have to fight for our survival.

Lets look at vs 48- And he saw them toiling in rowing; for the

wind was contrary unto them: and about the fourth watch of the
night he cometh unto them, walking upon the sea, and would
have passed by them.
Will break in 2 parts
• Storms sometimes tend to come at the most inconvenient of
times(both laterally and figuratively)
• This storm at a 3-4 am. Can anyone imaging how difficult an miserable
that might have been. They are wet, tired, hungry &disoriented
•  the storms of life…in the midst of them, we just need to fight to survive.
To survive emotionally, to survive physically, to survive spiritually – to
“not lose faith”

• And he saw them toiling in rowing; for the wind was contrary unto
them
the relation that can be drawn here is that when we come up on these
storms in life Jesus sees what we are going through.. and is coming to help
but we must have faith and trust and believe that god will take us through.
What is your relationship with the lord like ?
Do you know him and does he know you?
• about the fourth watch of the night he cometh unto them, walking
upon the sea, and would have passed by them.
• 49 But when they saw him walking upon the sea, they supposed it had
been a spirit, and cried out
• 50 For they all saw him, and were troubled. And immediately he talked
with them, and saith unto them, Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid.
• Jesus did show up in there time of distress (he passed by them)

• What is sad is that they did not recognize him ..

• 49 But when they saw him walking upon the sea, they supposed it had
been a spirit, and cried out
• Recognizing the Lord: Even though the disciples had been with Jesus for a
long time, they didn't recognize him as he approached in the storm. The
story reminds us as individuals trying to live for the lord that we may not
recognize the Lord when he comes to us in the middle of their own personal
storms.
Recognizing the Lord:
• Therefore it is important that we continually work on growing our
relationship with the lord, so that we can know him when he comes to
our rescue during our personal storms an also that he might know us
and not pass us by when we are being ravaged by the storms of life.
• So that we can hear that voice calling out to us during our time of
distress saying; Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid.
• Right here Jesus identified him self- so even if sometimes in our
distress we don’t recognize the lord coming to our rescue; he will
identify himself to us so that we can allow him to work in our lives
• 51 And he went up unto them into the ship; and the wind ceased: and
they were sore amazed in themselves beyond measure, and wondered.

-Do you see how amazing it is when Jesus steps into your boat? The
storms are calmed..
whatever setback,
disappointment or short coming you are going through Jesus will take you
through and deliver you safely to the other side.
Jesus helps us complete our journey

• No matter how tough the journey or mission you're on is, Jesus is

capable of bringing us through it. Scripture tells us that "and
immediately the boat was at the land to which they were going."
(John 6:21) God has a plan for us but we are in no position to fulfill it.
Thankfully Jesus is and He enables us to complete with excellence the
plans God has for us

Mathews perspective. Mathew 14-new international version
• Jesus Walks on the Water
• 22 Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the
crowd. 23 After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there
alone, 24 and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.
• 25 Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were
terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear.
• 27 But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”
• 28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”
• 29 “Come,” he said.
• Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid
and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”
• 31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”
• 32 And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. 33 Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly
you are the Son of God.”
• 34 When they had crossed over, they landed at Gennesaret. 35 And when the men of that place recognized Jesus, they sent word
to all the surrounding country. People brought all their sick to him 36 and begged him to let the sick just touch the edge of his
cloak, and all who touched it were healed.

gospel from Mathews perspective.
• Keeping focused on Jesus: Peter did not begin to sink until he started looking
around at the wind and the waves. For Christians, the lesson is that when they
take their eyes off of Jesus and focus on their difficult circumstances, they begin
to sink under the weight of their problems. If we cry out to Jesus in faith, he will
catch us by the hand and raise us above seemingly impossible surroundings.
• Doubt will only cause us to sink
• Some accounts show us how Peter asked to walk to Jesus in the same manner
as well. The first few steps worked well for Peter but when he saw the waves,
he started to sink. Likewise, our doubt- as harmless as it might seem- could be
the very reason we are sinking into despair and hopelessness. That's why faith
and complete trust in Jesus is vital as we go through our storms.
In concluding
• Are Making room for God- are you praying and talking to god in the manner
that you should
• Do you know god and does he know you- will he pass by u in the storm?
And not come to your rescue?
• What condition is my faith in?- is it weak is or is it strong? Do I even have
faith?
these are import questions that we need to ask ourselves as we traverse our
life’s journey; because I don’t believe anyone wants to heard at the end of
that journey.
Mathew7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from
me, ye that work iniquity.
• Reach Out And Touch The Lord
Reach out and touch the Lord
As He passes by,
You’ll find He’s not too busy
To hear your heart’s cry.
He is passing by this moment
Your needs to supply.
Reach out and touch the Lord
As He passes by.
