COMMITMENT
• A promise to do or give something
• A promise to be loyal to someone or something
• The attitude of someone who works very hard to do or support
something
• Work commitment is the level of enthusiasm an employee has
towards his/her tasks assigned at a workplace
• It is the feeling of responsibility that a person has towards the goals,
mission, and vision of the organization he/she is associated with
WHY SHOULD YOU MAKE A COMMITMENT
• It gives you a mission
• You are reminded that you matter
• It creates safety
• It gives us an opportunity to be conscious
• It gives you a chance to belong
• Making and keeping commitments are foundational for everyday life,
career, and business
• Earning the trust of your clients, colleagues and the public requires a
life-long commitment to ethics, integrity, and fairness in all that you do
EMPATHY
• Empathy is the capacity to understand or feel what another person is experiencing from
within their frame of reference, that is, the capacity to place oneself in another's position
• Empathy is the ability to mutually experience the thoughts, emotions, and direct experience
of others
• The ability to understand another person’s circumstances, point of view, thoughts, and
feelings
• When experiencing empathy, you are able to understand someone else’s internal
experiences
• Empathy, as psychologists have it, is the ability to recognize another’s feeling and have
mercy for them, sympathy for them, want to help them.
• One of the best skills you can develop as an engineer is
empathy.
• You can work on this skill by trying to establish an unbiased
point of view in all communications.
• Practice shifting your perspectives and observe the changes in
your interactions.
• Improving this soft skill will be a catalyst for positive change
at and outside of work.
• Coding is a form of communication. Communication is rooted
in empathy. So software engineers have a lot to gain from
leveraging empathy as a tactical skill
To practice ‘Empathy’, a leader must have or develop in him, the
following characteristics…..
• – Understanding others
• – Service orientation
• – Developing others
• – Leveraging diversity
• – Political awareness
• Benefits of empathy include:

SELF-CONFIDENCE

Self-confidence is an attitude about your skills and abilities


It means you accept and trust yourself and have a sense of control
in your life
You know your strengths and weakness well, and have a positive
view of yourself
You set realistic expectations and goals, communicate assertively,
and can handle criticism
Self-confidence is believing in one’s own skills
SELF-CONFIDENCE
People with self-confidence have the following characteristics:
• A self-assured standing,
• Willing to listen to and learn from others and adopt
• Frank to speak the truth,
• Respect others’ efforts and give due credit.
Factors that shape self-confidence in a person are:
• Heredity and family environment
• Friendship
• Influence of superiors/role models,
• Training in the organization
