ISO Awareness Seminar:

EMS Guidelines
Benguet Corporation (Electrical)
BC Assay and Met Lab

 Includes
EMS Guidelines

 ISO-related guideline or operation-control put in place in all

major processes to reduce (if not totally eliminate)
environmental impact from process wastes and by-products
CHEMICAL – HANDLING and STORAGE
CHEMICAL – HANDLING and STORAGE
SPILL KIT (OIL/CHEMICALS)

 SPILL KITS ARE LOCATED AT: CHEMICAL STORAGE AREAS

During Spill

 Do not touch any harmful substance. Use PPE’s when

handling spill and leaks
 Immediately stop the cause of spill or leak (Place an
absorbent barrier around the spill if necessary)
 Cover the spill entirely with an appropriate material (sand,
saw dust etc.)
 Use small dustpan or shovel to collect the absorbent material
used
 Transfer contaminated material into a bag labeled “toxic” or
“hazard waste”.
During Spill

 Toxic bags collected can be thrown on the hazard waste trash

bin (if available), or can be given to Enviro Department for
proper inventory and documentation
 All tools used should be decontaminated and washed
properly before storage and re-use
 (DEMO SPILL KIT USE)
EMS GUIDELINE : OIL

 ALSO PROPER AND REGULAR MAINTENANCE OF

EQUIPMENT IS ALSO KEY TO REDUCE OIL LEAKS AND
SMOKE EMISSION.
 ALL ITEMS CONTAMINATED WITH OIL AND GREASE ARE
THROWN IN THE HAZARDOUS TRASH BIN
GAS CYLINDERS

 Observe proper handling and storage of oxygen and

acetylene tanks

 Dead Animals
SOLID WASTE SEGRAGATION
 PLASTIC WASTE
 (PLASTIC BAGS USED FOR FOOD) DISPOSE IN NON-
BIODEGRADABLE TRASH BINS
SOLID WASTE SEGRAGATION
 RECYCLABLE WASTE
 (ALUMINUM CANS, PLASTIC BOTTLES ETC) SHOULD BE
THROWN IN THE RECYCLABLE TRASH BIN
SOLID WASTE SEGRAGATION

 METAL SCRAPS
 WORN OUT TOOLS SHOULD BE RETURNED TO THE
SUPERVISOR BEFORE REPLACEMENT (SHOULD BE
RECORDED)
 REUSE OR RECYCLE IF POSSIBLE
 ALL METAL WASTE SHOULD BE COLLECTED IN A SPECIFIED
OPEN AREA (BODEGA, REBAR OR OTHER DESIGNATED OPEN
SPACE)
AIR POLLUTION

 Smoke emission from surface vehicles and equipment

Regular maintenance Annual Emission Test

AIR POLLUTION

 PERMIT TO OPERATE: AIR COMPRESSOR AND GENERATOR

CONTAMINATED CONTAINERS

 Containers that used to contain toxic substances should be

disposed (or stored properly)
CONTAMINATED CONTAINERS

 IF TOXIC WASTE BIN (OR AREA DESIGNATED FOR

CONTAMINATED CONTAINERS) IS FULL, IT WILL BE TURNED
OVER TO ENVIRO DEPT FOR TEMPORARY STORAGE (REBAR) OR
DISPOSAL
