EMS Guidelines

 ISO-related guideline or operation-control put in place in all

major processes to reduce (if not totally eliminate)
environmental impact from process wastes and by-products
Waste Produced (Mine Operations)

SOLID WASTE SEGRAGATION

 ROCK WASTE
 BACK-FILL OR DUMPED OUT OF THE MINE

 ORGANIC WASTE
 USE BIODEGRADABLE TRASH BIN LOCATED
UNDERGROUND

 PLASTIC WASTE
 FOR SMALLER PLASTIC WASTE (PLASTIC BAGS USED FOR
FOOD, OLD SACKS), DISPOSE IN NON-BIODEGRADABLE
TRASH BINS LOCATED UNDERGROUND
 BIG PLASTIC WASTES (LIKE USED HOSE, VENT BAGS)
SHOULD BE TAKEN OUT OF THE MINE FOR DISPOSAL
SOLID WASTE SEGRAGATION

 PLASTIC BOTTLES
 RECYCLABLE MATERIALS SHOULD BE THROWN IN THE
RECYCLABLE TRASH BIN LOCATED UNDERGROUND

 METAL SCRAPS
 WORN OUT DRILL RODS, SHOVEL, HAMMER, MOIL SHOULD
BE RETURNED TO THE SUPERVISOR BEFORE REPLACEMENT
 OLD RAILS SHOULD BE COLLECTED AND BROUGHT OUT OF
THE MINE
 REUSE OR RECYCLE IF POSSIBLE
 ALL METAL WASTE SHOULD BE COLLECTED IN A SPECIFIED
AREA (BODEGA, REBAR OR OTHER OPEN SPACE)
EMS GUIDELINE : DIESEL

 USE PROPER STORAGE/TRANSPORT CONTAINER

EMS GUIDELINE : DIESEL

 USE APPROPRIATE STORAGE SPACE

EMS GUIDELINE : DIESEL

 Car Buoys used for diesel should be properly labeled

 Un-usable car buoys are retured to the warehouse for

disposal
EMS GUIDELINE : DIESEL

 HANDLE WITH CAUTION (AVOID SPILL)

SPILL KIT

 SPILL KITS ARE ALSO LOCATED AT DESIGNATED

REFUELLING AREAS UNDERGROUND
During OIL Spill

 Do not touch any harmful substance. Use PPE’s when

handling spill and leaks
 Immediately stop the cause of spill or leak (Place an
absorbent barrier around the spill if necessary)
 Cover the spill entirely with an appropriate material (sand,
saw dust etc.)
 Use small dustpan or shovel to collect the absorbent material
used
 Transfer contaminated material into a bag labeled “toxic” or
“hazard waste”.
During OIL Spill

 Toxic bags collected can be thrown on the hazard waste trash

bin (if available), or can be given to Enviro Department for
proper inventory and documentation
 All tools used should be decontaminated and washed
properly before storage and re-use
EMS GUIDELINE : DIESEL

 ALL WASTE ITEMS USED TO HANDLE DIESEL (OTHER OILS

AND GREASE INCLUDED) ARE THROWN IN THE TOXIC
WASTE BIN (LOCATED AT DESIGNATED REFUELLING
AREAS UNDERGROUND)
EMS GUIDELINE : DIESEL

 Also proper and regular maintenance of equipment is also

key to reduce breakdown and oil leaks
EMS GUIDELINE: ENGINE BATTERY

 All unusable LHD and Locomotive batteries will be collected

by the Mine Mechanical Department
EMS GUIDELINE: GAS CYLINDERS

 Observe proper handling and storage of oxygen and

acetylene tanks
EMS GUIDELINE: LIGHTS

 Dispose all busted light bulbs and lamps properly

DUST Control Underground
Contaminated Water
Other Reminders
 Use designated toilets/portalets

 Follow designated smoking area

 Use plastic bottles for moma

 (for ACMP) regularly check generators to avoid leaks and

unnecessary smoke emission
