Green technology is an umbrella term that describes the use of technology and
science to create products and services that are environmentally friendly.
Green tech is related to cleantech, which specifically refers to products or
services that improve operational performance while also reducing costs,
energy consumption, waste, or negative effects on the environment.
GOALS OF GREEN TECHNOLOGY-
The 5 R’s
The important goals of green technology introduce sustainable living,
develop renewable energy, decrease production of waste, conserve the
utilization of natural resources, creation of products which are reusable and
recyclable, and inventing alternatives to the practices which adversely
affect the human and environment.
BRANCHES OF GREEN TECHNOLOGY
Green Chemistry
The term green chemistry is defined as: The invention, design and application of
chemical products and processes to reduce or to eliminate the use and generation of
hazardous substances.
Green energy
Green energy comes from natural sources such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, plants,
algae and geothermal heat. These energy resources are renewable.
Green IT
Also called green computing it describes the study and the using of computer
resources in an efficient way. Green IT starts with manufacturers producing
environmentally friendly products and encouraging IT departments to consider more
friendly options like virtualization, power management and proper recycling habits.
Green building
Green building is the practice of increasing the efficiency of buildings and their
use of energy, water and materials and reducing building impacts on human
health and environment through better design, construction, operation, and
maintenance.
Green Nanotechnology
Green nanotechnology refers to the use of nanotechnology to enhance the
environmental sustainability of processes producing negative externalities. It also
refers to the use of the products of nanotechnology to enhance sustainability.
EXAMPLES OF GREEN TECH
SOLAR PANELS
WIND TURBINE
Global investment in green technology has been increasing by almost 20% over the last few
years in different sectors like energy, innovation, and manufacturing. With more pressing
environmental problems across the world like energy shortages, global warming, pollution,
rising urban population, and others, individuals, small and big companies, and countries are
looking into the future to see how adapting to greener technologies can help change the world.
