Introduction
■ Work-life balance refers to the level in which personal & professional activities are valued in one’s
individual life.

■ It is reducing work-related stress and developing an effective and long work schedule while
maintaining good health and general well-being.

■ It is a method which helps the employees of an organization to balance their personal life and
professional lives both.

■ Work-life balance also encourages employees to organize their time and maintain a balance by
spending time to their family, health, vacations & also for other activities.

■ It is important to balance the time spent outside the work that includes the family, relationships,
other personal interests & hobbies.
Work-life balance benefits

■ Increase productivity & profitability.

■ Sickness and absenteeism are seen less.
■ A happier, less stressed workforce.
■ Staff are feeling valued and their personal/family life is given importance.
■ More engaged staff.
■ Improvement in employee enthusiasm.
■ Success in achieving goals.
How to improve work-life balance ?
■ Set your priorities:
 Begin your workday by prioritizing objectives that need to be completed by the end
of the day.

■ Concentrating on one thing at a time only:

 By concentrating on a single task will allow you to complete your work more
quickly with fewer errors and also allows you to spend more time & attention to
your objectives or goals.

■ Tracking of your time:

 Ask yourself, where do you spend most of your time? How much time do you spend
doing the things that matter to you the most?
 If things in your life don't match with what matters most to you, then get clear of
them or reassign them as much as possible.

■ Respect your personal & private time:
 We often require an emergency to reschedule an important work meeting, give your
personal time the same respect & priority.

■ Set boundaries:
 Turn off your cellphones & laptop when having family dinner, ask friends & family
not to interrupt your workday unless its an emergency.

■ Get plenty of exercise:

 Exercise has been shown to relieve stress, improve one’s mood & energy, and
ultimately helps you make more productive.

Example of work-life balance
■ 1. Creating flexible leave policies.

 In recent years, many organizations have changed their leave policies. Instead of offering
specific amounts of sick or vacation days, they’ve combined them into a general category
which is called PTO (paid time off).
 Creating flexible leave policies is a work-life balance strategy that employees appreciate
because they don't have to answer for how they spend their vacation time.
■ 2. Offering flexible schedule

 It is not always required for people to work from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. You might even want to
make the changes to a results-oriented workplace, where individuals can work as many or
few hours as they need to finish their projects.
 A part-time job is another option to consider. Some individuals may be unable to do a full-
time position but can work part-time.
