Try to go a full day without a schedule change. Anything that will

be "different than usual" must be pre-taught at the beginning of
the day.
• For example,
• If you start your day with 45 minutes of writing time on the schedule, try
and stick with 45 minutes of writing time.
• No last minute "fillers" or "additions" to what is already planned. Try to
plan the day out in advance
Individuals with autism have a very hard time with schedule changes due to wanting to know what they can expect. Not a fan of suprises!

*Have fun and get the conversation going about challenges our kiddos with autism face every single day. If you would like you can take pictures
and send them to my email! Thank you all so much for your participation! It is truly an honor to have such an amazing support system!*
Tuesday, April 12th

Every hour try to take a 5-minute Sensory Break
• For example,
• Guided meditation
• Soft music
• Access to fidget
• No talking
• Suggestions that we use in the ASD room
• Melting
• Just Breath
• Bring it down
• Relaxing music, lights off, head down
• Smell the flower, blow out the candle

Children with autism need sensory breaks throughout the day to help them regulate/calm down their bodies.

Look at a Core Board. You can show this video to explain what it is and how it works.

Make your own Core Boards (include words on the board that as

a class you have decided are important and necessary words to
communicate effectivity)
Universal Core Board  Our Class Core Board

Children with autism have a hard time communicating with words and often need to use a AAC or
core board to communicate.
Our Class Core Board
•Thursday, April 13th
Try to go 15/20 minutes without talking and use the core boards
the students made or sign language to communicate.

• You can display a core board on your screen by searching "universal core
board," or you can give each student their own core board that will be
provided in your mailbox. Have fun!

• Discuss how hard or easy it was to use the board. Did they feel like they
couldn’t say all that they needed to say? Do they feel like it would have been
easier to just use their voice?
• You can record any comments that you or your students have on the provided participation
sheet.
