Shaping School Culture by
Living the Vision and
Mission Presentation
Lathrop Intermediate School
Santa Ana Unified School District
Introduction
• The purpose of this lesson is to present a plan with strategies that will
help promote a positive school culture.
• This presentation will also provide some strategies of how we can
communicate the mission and vision to our stakeholders and provide
the rationale of how each strategy will help shape and support a
positive school culture.
School Vision and Mission
• School Vision is to work collaboratively and comprehensively with
staff, parents, and the community to strengthen a learning
environment focused on raising the achievement of all students and
preparing them for success in college and career.
Working together with parents and getting them involve in school activities
and in student’s education will build a better school environment because
the school and parents can work as a team to keep students accountable to
work hard and be the best students that they can be and to become better
learning and help maintain the school as a positive learning environment.
Strategies that Embed Mission and Vision
• Professional Development for Staff
Providing meaningful professional development for staff and faculty like
workshops that will help with instruction, student growth and engagement,
team building, skill building, team collaboration, lesson and unit planning
will help educators have a safe learning environment in their classroom and
provide the best education for their students.
These professional developments will help staff to support students and
keep a safe learning environment in their classrooms and in the school. This
will keep students engaged and will make them feel like their teachers care
for them and provide the best education possible, which will be aligned
with the vision of the school.
Strategies that Embed Mission and Vision
• School Policies
Creating a student and staff handbook for students/parents and for staff so
that they know the expectations of the school and so that they can also
contribute to the positive school culture so they can get the best education
possible.
The student handbook can be on the school’s website so that it can easily
be accessible by students and parents. The handbook will have the school’s
policies, rules, regulations, and expectations, and will follow the school’s
mission of providing a well-rounded learning experience for students and
engaging them and providing them the best experience to make them
better learners and members of their community.
Strategies that Embed Mission and Vision
• Student participation and roles in the classroom
Students can do the following to help them contribute to a positive
learning environment and culture to help them be successful. These
roles can be collaborating with their peers, actively participating,
communicate effectively, work in groups, staying focused, demonstrate
leadership, and demonstrate positive behavior.
Doing these things can help contribute to a positive learning
environment in the classroom and can help students be more
successful in their education.
Strategies that Embed Mission and Vision
• Teachers’ roles in the classroom
Teachers can do many of these activities to help create and maintain a positive
culture in the classroom. Some of these can be setting up high expectations,
assignment student pairs or groups, keeping students accountable, incorporate
technology, and be a facilitator and let students work together to help each other
learn, making meaningful and engaging lessons, and providing frames for
students, so that they can communicate effectively using academic language.
These strategies will help create a positive learning environment in the classroom
and will help engage students more in the lesson and will lead to student growth
in their learning. By having engaging lessons, and letting students work together,
it will lead to a more conceptual was of learning in the classroom.
