Half wave rectifier:
When a single rectifier diode unit is placed in series with the load across
an ac supply, it converts alternating voltage into a uni-directional pulsating
voltage, using one-half cycle of the applied voltage, the other half cycle being
suppressed because it conducts only in one direction. Unless there is an
inductance or battery in the circuit, the current will be zero, therefore, for half
the time. This is called half-wave rectification. And the circuit which performs half
wave rectification is called half wave rectifier.
Full wave rectifier:
A Full Wave Rectifier is a circuit, which converts an ac voltage into a
pulsating dc voltage using both half cycles of the applied ac voltage. It uses four
diodes of which two conducts during one half cycle while the other conducts
during the other half cycle of the applied ac voltage.

Procedure:
4
1. Open the ORCAD software and create a new simulation file.
2. After creating the new simulation file, place the voltage source and
the diodes and connect them using wires as shown in the circuit
diagram for half wave rectifier.
3. After constructing the circuit add zero ground by clicking to the
place ground option and place the voltage current marker at
both
the terminals of the voltage source and load resistance.
4. Now run the simulation file and a graph will be displayed infer the
observations from the graph.
5. Now modify the circuit with respect to full wave rectifier and add
voltage current marker to the both the terminals of the voltage
source and load resistance.
6. Create a new simulation file and run it.
7. A graph respect to full wave rectifier is displayed infer the
observations from the graph.
Result:
Only the positive half cycle is rectified by the half wave rectifier
whereas the full wave rectifier rectifies both the half cycle of the ac voltage.
Inference:
From the graph the behaviour of the output of both half wave rectifier
and full wave rectifier is observed.
