1. Straight forward filing

Moving a file lenght wise across the


surface of the workpiece is called straight
forward filing. In this method the filing is
done by moving the file up and down
slowly.

2. Draw filing

Draw filing is a modified technique that


should only be used with single and
double-cut files. In this technique, the
file is turned sideways and is grasped on
both ends.

3. Cross filing

this technique involves pushing the file


across the edge of the material. It can be
used for finishing, shaping or sharpening.
This is the most commonly used filing
technique.
