HAZARDNESS🏞️
• Hazard is a term associated with a substance that is to cause an
injury in a given environment or situation!
INTRODUCTION:

Definition: Industrial hazard may be defined as any condition produced by

industries and it may cause injury or death to personal or loss of product!
TYPES OF HAZARDS
• 1. Biological Hazards
• 2.Chemical Hazards
• 3. Mechanical Hazards
• 4. Physical Hazards
• 5. Electrical Hazards
• 6. Fire and Dust Hazards
• Biological Hazards: It is one originated from an Organism that is
foreign to the affected orgnisim.
• Many of them are associated with food, including certain
viruses, fungi, bacteria and other sea food toxins!
• Disease in human can come from biological Hazards inform of
infection by bacteria, antigents!!
• Chemical Hazards: A chemical can be considered a Hazards by virtue
of its properties which can cause harm or dangerous to humans,
property or the environment.
• Some chemical are occur naturally in certain geological formations
such as radon gas or arsenic ! Some are from industries and
laboratories which can cause damage to respiratory, digestive and
nervous system.
• Mechanical Hazards: It is any hazard involving a machine or
process .Motor vehicles, aircraft and airbags pose mechanical
Hazards. Compressed gas or liquids can also be considered as
mechanical hazard.
• Physical Hazard: It is naturally occurring process tht has the potential
to create loss or damage.
• It has both human and natural elements.
• It includes Floods, Earth quakes, drought, volcanic eruption, etc…
• Electrical Hazards: Mainly it causes when there is a contact with
electrical energy.
• Example;
• 1. Electrical shock 🥲
• 2. Electrocution(fatal).
• Fire and Dust Hazards :
• Fire Hazards: It has some types. They are;
• 1. Class A Fire : These are fires of combustible materials such as
wood,cloth, paper etc…
• 2. Class B Fires: These are fires of flammable petroleum products,
liquids,gases,etc..
• 3. Class C Fires: These fires involves electrical equipment.
• 4. Class D Fires: These are the fires in combustible metals!
• Dust Hazards: These are mainly in Pharmaceutical Industries.
• It contains
• 1. Grinding or milling of drugs or herbal products.
• 2. During weighing dust my float on air.
• 3. During powder mixing dusts may be generated.
• Methods to control:
• 1. Filtration
• 2. Inertial seperator.
Familiar Disease: Industrial Dermatitis💥
• Industrial Dermatitis is skin disease that depends on the working conditions.
It may be the result of irritation or allergy.Usually it starts with redness and
itchiness. Sometimes there may be swelling, scaling, oozing. Usually it affect
hands and arms.
Prevention:
• Work clothes should be changed daily.
• For chemicals which dry the skin such as solvents, moisturizers should
be applied daily.
• Personal protective equipment eg: gloves, boots should be taken.
Types of Hazards Toxicity🧪

• Acute Poisoning: It is characterized by rapid absorption of the

substance and the exposure is sudden and severe.
Exmples: Carbon Monoxide or Cynide Poisoning.

Chronic poisoning:It is characterized by prolonged or repeated

exposures of duration measured in days, months or years. Symptoms
may not be immediately apparent, but tend to build up in the body as a
result of chronic exposure.
Treatment of Hazardous Wastes:
• Reduction of source/reuse/recycle.
• Dilution of Hazardous wastes.
• Commercial available alternatives.
CASE STUDY: MUMBAI 🌟
• On July 10 2014, Around Early Morning 3’o clock, A Chlorine leak was
reported From a gas cylinder referred as a Turner, weighing about
650kg, Due to corrosion in time Of ware house in Mumbai port trust.

It Affected around 120 people, in the neighborhood including

port labours and port workers. It has been reported that it is clear cut
of ignorance and negligence. Among 120 people some are about
students, studying in nearby LBS college. Examinations saved many of
the students becoz many of them are awake for Night outs 😄.
• Later, Government declared that it is purely because of
irresponsiblility of MPT Officials and it happened because due to
corrosion of one of the cylinder among them.
The Cylinders where chlorine gs is stored is about a
decade ago… due to ageing it corroded and The MPT officals has failed
to resale them!!
Precautions of Industrial Hazards 🏭
• Protect the Head and Eyes with Google’s and Mask 😷
• Protection of Hands, Legs with Rubber gloves and rubber shoes👢
• Prevention of breathing Poisonious Gases.
Conclusion:
• From the previous discussion we can conclude that the safety
measures should be taken.
• But any how the accidents may occur, so every one should be
responsible and show some concern about our environment and our
beloved society.
