TOLL ROAD

A toll road is a public road or private road (almost always a controlled access highway in our day) on which
a toll is assessed for the journey. This is a form of road pricing that is usually applied to help cover the
costs of building and maintaining roads.

Toll roads have existed in several forms since time immemorial, with tolls being imposed on travelers
passing on foot, in the cart, or on horseback; a practice that continues with automobiles, and many
modern toll roads charge special fees for motorized vehicles. The number of tolls usually varies according
to vehicle type, weight, or  number of axles, with freight trucks often charging a higher rate than cars.

Tolls are often collected at toll squares, toll gates, toll houses, stations, bars, or gates. Some toll collection
points are automatic, and users deposit money at machines that open the gates after the correct tolls have
been paid. To cut costs and minimize time delays, many tolls are collected with electronic toll collection
equipment that automatically communicates with toll payers' transponders or uses automatic number
plate recognition to bill drivers by debiting their accounts.

Critics of toll roads include the time it takes to stop and pay tolls, and toll gate operator fees - up to about
a third of revenue in some cases. An automatic toll payment system helps minimize both. Others object to
paying "twice" for the same road: fuel and toll taxes.

Apart from toll roads, toll bridges and toll tunnels are also used by public authorities to
generate funds to pay back the costs of building structures. Some tolls set aside to pay for
future infrastructure maintenance or upgrades, or used as general funds by local
governments are not allocated for transportation facilities. This is sometimes restricted or
prohibited by central government regulations. 판매In addition, road congestion pricing

• Difference between toll road and highway
Toll roads require users to pay a predetermined amount. While the highway can be used
for free. Another example of a difference is that citizens can freely use the road. However,
residents of the community cannot freely use the toll road because there are conditions
for the type of vehicle.
