EFFECTS OF MODULAR DISTANCE

LEARNING APPROACH TO ACADEMIC


PERFORMANCE OF STUDENTS IN
GRADE 11 HUMSS STUDENT OF
TAGBINA NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL
(TNHS)

INTRODUCTION
According to (OECD,2020), many
education systems moved activities online, to
allow instruction to continue despite school
closures current covid-19 in the Philippines, a lot
of changes happened in the educational
landscape. According to (Bagood, 2020) the shift
of the teaching-learning delivery in school to
modular distance learning made more
challenging,on the part of the school personnel
the delivery of basic quality education.
1.2 CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK

1.3 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This study aims to determine the effects


of modular distance learning approach to
academic performance of students in grade 11
HUMSS student of Tagbina National High School
(TNHS). Specially, this study aims to answer the
following question;
1. How does modular distance learning affect the
academic performance of students?
2. What is their academic performance?
1.4 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The researcher believes that this study will not only yield
data that will be helpful to them, more so to the following groups of
people:
 
Students. This study will help the students to have an idea the
effects modular learning distance approach to academic
performances.
Teachers. This will serve as their basis to reflect on their current
teaching strategies and improve learning outcomes.
Parents. The parents will know and understand what are the factors
effects of modular distance learning of their students and how it is
affecting the academic performance of their children.
Future researchers. The proposed study will benefit and help the
Future researcher as their guide and for future reference as well to
have deeper understanding of the said problem.
1.5 SCOPE AND DELIMITATION OF THE STUDY

The study will cover the determination


effects of modular distance learning approach to
academic performance of students. The primary
subjects of this research study will consist of
Grade 11 students who are in the HUMSS
section of Academic Track of the Senior High
School in the Municipality of Tagbina, Surigao del
Sur. The respondents were given a questionnaire
in gathering the data needed in order to prevent
biases.
1.6 DEFINITION OF TERMS

The researchers provided the definition of each


terms below that were used in this study.

Academic Performance – the extent to which a student,


teacher or institution has attained their short or long-term
educational goals.
Students. Primarily a person enrolled in a school or other
educational institution and who is under learning with goals
of acquiring knowledge, developing professions and
achieving employment in a desired field.
HUMSS. One of the strands of academic track on K-12
curriculum which stands for Humanities and Social Sciences.
CHAPTER 3: RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents the different


methods and procedures used in order to
determine the effects of modular distance
learning approach of academic performance in
Grade 11 HUMSS students of Tagbina National
High School S.Y 2021-2022 under the following
subtopics namely Research Design , Participants
of the study , Setting of the study, Research
instrument, Data Gathering , and Data Analysis.
3.1 RESEARCH DESIGN

This study will use a descriptive type of


method which will be based on interpretation that
could generate authenticity. The researchers will
use a questionnaire in order to gather relevant
information. The study will be supplemented with
data through interviews and observations. The
study aims to determine the effects of modular
distance learning approach of academic
performance.
3.2 PARTICIPANTS OF THE STUDY

There are 40 participants in the study.


They were categorized under Grade 11
HUMSS-A, Grade 11 HUMSS-B, Grade 11
HUMSS-C , Grade 11 HUMSS-D

The data for this research was collected using a survey
questionnaire which was created using easy questions organized by
the researchers
Step 1. The survey consists of questions which will be related to
their academic performances. In the survey questionnaire.
Step 2. Likert scale will be used to determine if the respondent
agreed or disagreed in a question or statement.
Step 3. The questionnaire will be distributed to the respondents who
are the grade 11 HUMSS students of TNHS, after the teacher
validate it. The confidentiality of the respondents’ survey sheets will
be assured by the researchers.
Moreover, the respondents will be given a period of time to answer
the questions then will be collected by the researchers after.
 
3.3 SETTING OF THE STUDY

This study will take place in Tagbina National


High School to the grade 12 HUMSS students.
Tagbina National High School was established on
January 1,1999. Tagbina National High School is a
DepEd managed partially urban secondary public
school located at Purok-3 San Jose Poblacion,
Tagbina, Surigao del Sur. Tagbina is a second class
municipality in the province of Surigao del Sur
Philippines. Tagbina is composed of 25 barangay’s
and one of them is Poblacion in which the Tagbina
National High School is located.
