FOUNDATION DESIGN

The main purpose of footings and other foundation

systems is to transfer column loads safely to the soil. Since,
the soil bearing capacity is much lower than the concrete
columns; the loads need to be transferred safely to the soil
by using larger areas usually called shallow foundations. If
the soil has low bearing capacity, or the applied loads are
very large, it may be necessary to transfer the load to a
deeper soil through the use of piles or caissons usually
called deep foundation.
DESIGN PROCEDURE

• First we take moment and axial load from etabs out put
• Calculate design constants like fcd,fctd ,fyd….
• Depth determination
 Wide beam shear
 Area,length ,width and depth
 Shear resistance
 Design shear

 Punching shear
• Reinforcement
 Number of bar
 Spacing
