WHAT IS SYNTAX

• In linguistics , the word syntax comes from Greek which is a combination


of the word sInyn which means “together” and the word taxis which means
“series” , “sequence”.
• Syntax structure is one of the branches of linguistics that studies the rules
that determine how words form phrases and phrases form sentences .

SYNTAX IN SPEECH

• Syntax refers to the rules of word order and word combinations in


order to form phrases and sentences. Solid syntactic skills require an
understanding and use of correct word order and organization in phrases
and sentences and also the ability to use increasingly complex sentences as
language develops.
MODIFIED STRUCTURE

• A syntatic constuctions in which one gramaticall element is accompanied


by another . The first gramaticall element is called the head. Structural
Modification means any fundamental and significant change to the
structure of a building including any planned construction,
renovation, enlargement or expansion.
PREDICATION STRUCTURE

• Predicate structure is used in one of two ways in linguistics and its


subfields . The first defines a predicate as everything in a standard
declarative sentence except the subject , and the other views it as just the
main content verb or associated predicative expressions of a clause . By
the first definition the predicate of the sentence frank likes is likes cake.
COMPLEMENTARY STRUCTURE

• A complement is a word , phrase, or clause that is necessary to complete


the meaning of a expressions . Complements are often also arguments
(expressions that help completen the meaning of a predicate ) .
COORDINATION STRUCTURE

• A complex syntactic structure that connects two or more elements , these


elements are called conjuctions or conjoins . The presence of coordination
is often marked by the appearance of a coordinator.
