SALIENT FEATURES OF CDCP
• Each BATTERY has ONE CDCP having Four
cooling chambers
• Cooling Capacity/ chamber: 50-52 T/Hour

• Cooled Coke Temp : < 180 OC

• Steam Production : 25 T/H/Chamber
• Power Generation : 15 MW + 14 MW
• Cooling Medium : Circulating gases
Cooling Of Hot Coke In CDCP

• Cooling is continuous

• Cooling with inert circulating gas

• Circulating gas consists of CO2,

CO, O2,H2 and,N2

ADVANTAGES OF CDCP
• Clean Environment (Low SPM,No
phenolic vapour, no heat in ambience) as
it is a closed system
• Stabilisation of COKE
• Low & uniform moisture content
• Improved M10 & M40 Values
• Favours Stable BF Operating condition
• Recovery of Sensible heat of Coke and
generation of power
 Cooled coke from CDCP is sized
into required fractions with the help of
crushers and Screens.
 Coke fractions like BF coke, Nut
coke ,& Breeze coke are sent to
internal customers i.e. BF and Sinter
Plant
COKE FRACTIONS

• BF Grade COKE : 20-70 mm

• NUT COKE : 10-20 mm

• COKE BREEZE : < 10 mm

• COKE DUST

COKE APPLICATIONS
• Metallurgical coke in BF
• Nut coke in small furnaces, re-rolling
mills & foundries.
• Coke breeze in sinter making, cement
industry, foundries as briquettes.
• Coke dust in briquetting, making of
carbon blocks(graphite),carbon
electrodes.
COAL CHEMICALS PLANT
OBJECTIVES :
 Smooth evacuation of gas generated
in Coke Ovens.
 Cleaning of raw CO gas so as to use it
for heating Coke Oven Batteries and
for other consumers(TPP,MILLS etc.).
 Conversion of extracted coal
chemicals into saleable products
By-Products Chemicals

• Clean CO Gas is used as a Fuel

throughout the plant

• Valuable Chemicals are extracted

from Raw gas and sold in the market.
Raw CO Gas from Batteries is cooled &
processed in Coal Chemicals plant.

 Clean Coke Oven Gas contains

• Mainly Methane and Hydrogen
• Small quantities of CO & CO2
• Has CV = 4250 Kcal/Cu M
 It also contain small quantities of:
Tar fog and moisture
Ammonia
Naphthalene
Benzol
COAL CHEMICALS PLANT
CLEANING PROCESS:
The chemicals to be removed from
Raw CO gas are Tar, Ammonia, and
Benzol Hydrocarbon.
Benzol Hydrocarbon is not
objectionable but it is removed from
the gas because of its high market
value.
COAL CHEMICALS PLANT
(SUB-SECTIONS)

• RECOVERY SECTION

• BENZOL PLANT

• TAR DISTILLATION PLANT

COAL CHEMICALS PLANT
(CLEANING PROCESS- WHERE & HOW)
 Tar, ammonia and crude benzol is removed in Gas
Cleaning Plant (RECOVERY PLANT).

 Tar is removed and sent to Tar Distillation Plant

(TDP) for recovery of tar products.

 Ammonia liquor is separated from tar and pumped

back to gas collecting mains at Battery.

 Excess ammonical liquor is pumped to Ammonia

columns for further treatment. After treatment, it is
sent to MBC.
COAL CHEMICALS PLANT
(CLEANING PROCESS- WHERE & HOW)
• Ammonia is removed in gas
cleaning unit (Ammonium Sulphate
plant). The gas is passed through a
4-5% Sulphuric Acid Bath.
Ammonia in CO-gas reacts with
acid and forms ammonium
sulphate.
• Crude Benzol is removed in Benzol
Scrubbers.
