Introduction
What is biodiversity

Biodiversity is all the different kinds of life you’ll find in one

area—the variety of animals, plants, fungi, and even
microorganisms like bacteria that make up our natural
world. Each of these species and organisms work together
in ecosystems, like an intricate web, to maintain balance
and support life. Biodiversity supports everything in nature
that we need to survive: food, clean water, medicine, and
shelter.
Ecological life support— biodiversity provides functioning
ecosystems that supply oxygen, clean air and water,
pollination of plants, pest control, wastewater treatment and
many ecosystem services. Recreation—many recreational
pursuits rely on our unique biodiversity , such as
birdwatching, hiking, camping and fishing.

Consumption Use Value
• A straightforward example is the direct utilization of
timber, food, fuel wood and fodder by local
communities.

• The biodiversity contained in the ecosystem

provides forest dwellers with all their daily needs,
food, building material, fodder, medicines and a
variety of other products.
• They are well-known about the qualities and
different uses of wood from different species of trees,
and collect a large number of local fruits, roots and
plant material that they use as food, construction
material or medicines.

.The most important point of consumptive use is that

some rural communities closest to the forests or
other natural areas can prosper through the
sustainable harvesting of wildlife species. Hunting,
direct-consumption (e.g. collection of berries,
mushrooms, herbs, plants) are all "consumptive
uses“.
PRODUCTION USE VALUE
 • This category comprises of marketable goods.
• Products that are commercially harvested for exchange in
formal markets
.Each species is valuable to humans.
.The global collection of genes , species , habitats and
ecosystems is a resource that provides for human needs
now.
. It is also essential for human survival in the future.  This is
often the only value of biological resources that is reflected in
the income accounts
.Products such as animal skins, ivory, medicinal
plants,honey,beewax,fibers, gums,ect…..,
