The act of combining parts or elements to form a whole.


The term use to describe the arrangement of the visual
elements.

 An important principle of design that gives


artwork a sense of cohesion.
 Wholeness or completeness in artwork
BALANCE

 Use of artistic elements such as line, texture,


color, and form in the creation of artworks.
MOVEMENT

 Adds excitement, drama, and overall


compositional interest to an artwork
 An artist can direct how a viewer eye move
around an image by arranging the elements in a
certain way.
RYTHYM

 Provides a path for the viewers eye to follow in


artwork.
FOCUS

 An area of emphasis that demands the most


attention and to which the viewers eyes is drawn.

CONTRAST

 Refers to the striking difference between two


elements
 Used to tell story to create better composition,
sense of unease, sense of peace or the clarity.
PATTERN

 Design in which lines, forms or colours are


repeated.
 They offer visual clues to an underlying order
 Create visual effects
PROPORTION

 Relation based on sized between parts or objects


within composition.
 Compares the size of some features of an object
to other features in the same composition
