BRAKE SYSTEM GROUP 6 AMC 97 A

BRAKE SYSTEM
A brake is a mechanical device which inhibits motion, slowing or stopping
a moving object or preventing its motion.
Modern cars have brakes on all four wheels, operated by a hydraulic
system. The brakes may be disc type or drum type. The front brakes play a
greater part in stopping the car than the rear ones, because braking throws
the car weight forward on to the front wheels.
Many cars therefore have disc brakes, which are generally more efficient,
at the front and drum brakes at the rear.
All-disc braking systems are used on some expensive or high-performance
cars, and alldrum systems on some older or smaller cars.

TYPES OF BRAKING SYSTEMS
•Service brakes. It’s the primary braking system
using a pedal connected to a hydraulic system
causing it to operate.
•Parking brakes. It’s mechanically applied by a
lever or pedal.
BRAKE SYSTEM
BRAKE SYSTEM
A combination of one or more brakes and their operating and
control mechanism.

Purpose of Brake System:

1. Slow down or stop the motion of the vehicle
2. Hold the vehicle while park on an inclined
BRAKE SYSTEM
Major Components:
1. Pedal Assembly Linkage that absorbs foot pressure and transmit it to
the master cylinder piston.
2. Master Cylinder Assembly Used to pump out hydraulic fluid to the
wheel brake assembly.
3. Pipes and Hoses Used to transport fluid from master cylinder to the
wheel brake assembly.
4. Wheel Brake Assembly Used to convert fluid pressure into
mechanical force to produce brakes.
