Induction Generator and Linear Induction Motor

Introduction
• Similar to induction motor.
• Nr >Ns - Switched over to the
generating mode.
• Delivers Electrical power.
• Wind Turbine.
• Various types of Induction
generator.
• Singly fed induction
generator.
• Doubly fed induction
generator.
Linear Induction Motor
• Electrical energy input into linear or translational
motion
• Primary and Secondary.
• The secondary - aluminium conductor.
• Primary is connected to a three-phase supply -
traveling flux wave.
• Relative motion - a current is induced.
• Induced current - magnetic flux wave
• Interacts with the traveling flux to produce a linear
force F.
• If the secondary is fixed and the primary is free to
move
• Force will move the primary
• Types of Linear induction motor.
• Single-sided linear induction motor .
• Double-sided linear induction motor.
Summary
• Induction generators are mainly coupled to wind turbines for electricity
generation.
• Simple and Robust in construction.
• Requires less maintenance.
• Free from hunting.
• No synchronization is required.
• Linear induction motors are used for transportation, especially in electric
traction.
• Used as actuators for door movement.
• Requires a larger air-gap.
• Magnetising current is larger.
• Efficiency and the power factor are lower .
