Database System Environment
The Database System Environment is comprised of the
components that are meant for defining and managing the
Data that we collect, store, manage and use in the
database environment. In high level view the database
system is composed of following five components
Hardware
Software
People
Procedure
Data
Hardware

• Hardware identifies all the system’s physical components.

• It includes computers, computer peripherals and
network components.
• Computer-the main and most easily identified
hardware component o the Database system environment
Software
Software's:
To make the database system work properly three types of
software's are required.
The software component of the database environment
includes all the software that we require to access, store
and regulate the database.
• Operating Systems
• DBMS
• Application Programs and Utilities
Database System Environment

People component include all users associated

With database systems. Five users associated with
database system environment are:-
• System Administrators
• Data Modellers
• Database Administrators
• System Analyst and Programmers
• End Users
System Administrators , Data Modellers , Database Administrators ,
System Analyst and Programmers End Users

System Administrators: Overseas database

system’s general operations.
Data Modelers: Prepare the conceptual
design(ER Diagram) from the requirements.
Database Administrators: Physically implements
the database according to the logical design.
System Analyst and Programmers: They create input
screens, reports and procedures through which
end users access and manipulate the database.
End Users: End users are the people who use the
application. Ex in banking system the employees,
customer using ATM or online banking facility are
users.
Procedures
Procedures in a Database Environment:
Procedures are the instructions and rules that supervise
the design and use of the database system.
Procedures play an important role in a company because
they enforce the standards by which business is conducted
in an organization.
 Data in the Database:
 It is the collection of facts stored in the database.
 Data is the raw material from which information is
generated no database can exist without data.
