DEFINITION OF THE TERMS

• Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being,

cause danger, risk or injury.
• Occupational Health and Safety is the protection of workers against
the work related accidents or injuries at their places of work

require, such as hard hats, eye protection, and respirators.

illnesses and accidents, increasing labor productivity.

safety (cont’d)

• To lower the expense of accidents and other occurrences

The amount of money spent on compensations is reduced due to the
lower accident and injury rate.
• To lower the expense of litigation
Good practice of OHS can help avoid conflicts, which will cut
down on litigation costs.
Aims of ensuring good practice of occupational health and
safety (cont’d)

• To boost the capacity of contractors to submit bids

Records of good practice of OHS give the contractor an advantage
when the employer is to select a suitable bidder.
• To reduce insurance costs
Ensuring good practice of OHS reduces physical harm and material
damage which decreases insurance costs.
Aims of ensuring good practice of occupational health and
safety (cont’d)

• To enhance public relations and perception

Good practice of OHS lowers risks on a project which in
turn would affect the image of the organization in the
public.
Aims of ensuring good practice of occupational health and
safety (cont’d)

• To raise morale and relations among employees

• Ensuring good practice of OHS gives employees the assurance of proper
site security, which over time can improve staff relations.
• To ease access to funds
• Good practice of OHS creates certainty among sources of revenue that their
money will produce returns rather than be used to pay for compensation for
injured workers on the job site.
Conclusion

• A good occupational health and safety policy should focus on

identifying these risks and making sure that workers have the
training, tools, and other resources they need to do their jobs safely.
• Effective regulations and safeguards must be put into place to
prevent accidents, restrict output owing to file workers'
compensation claims, and avoid fines from the OSHA.
