MEANING OF CURRICULUM
• The term curriculum has been
derived from Latin word ‘Currere’
which means a ‘race course’ a
runway on which one runs to
reach a goal. Accordingly , a
curriculum is the instructional and
the educative programme by
following which the pupils
achieve their goals, ideals and
aspiration of life.

setting. Its purpose is to decide whether or not the newly adopted
curriculum is producing the intended results and meeting the
objectives that it has set forth.
• Another purpose of curriculum evaluation is to gather data that will
help in identifying areas in need of improvement or change.
NEED OF CURRICULUM
EVALUATION
• It determines the value of the curriculum.
• To find out the cause of defective curriculum.
• It clarify objectives and also to know the extent of objectives
achieved. It leads to the improvement of institution, teaching-learning
process.
• To diagnose difficulties in curriculum process.
• To gather information for administrative purpose.
• To provide quality control in education.
• Several experts have proposed different models describing how and
what should be involved in evaluating a curriculum.
