8.6 Solubility
Solubility
Solubility is the amount of solute that will dissolve in 100 g of water at the given temperature.
Concentrated solution
A concentrated solution has more particles of the solute dissolved in it.
Dilute solution
A dilute solution has less particles of the solute dissolved in it.
Saturated solution
A solution in which no more of the solute will dissolve.
Unsaturated solution
A solution in which more of the solute will dissolve.

Soluble - a solid that will dissolve in water is soluble.

Insoluble - a solid that will not dissolve in water is insoluble.

B.Some substances only dissolve at high temperatures
C.Solubility depends on temperature
8.7 Solubility investigation
Variables
Something that can be changed in an investigation and effect the results.eg number of spatulas of
salt, volume of water , temperature.
Independent variable
The variable you change is called the independent variable.eg. temperature

Dependent variable
The variable you measure is called the dependent variable. Eg. Number of spatulas of salt

Control variable
The variable you keep the same are called control variables. Eg.volume of water

Range ( the highest and the lowest you use)

Interval(10 0C gaps or 5 0C)
