The OSPF (Open Shortest Path First)

protocol is used to distribute IP
routing information throughout a

single Autonomous System (AS) in an

What are examples of simplex data transmission?

The keyboard, Television, Mouse, Radio
Broadcasts, and Monitor are great examples of a
Simplex transmission.

What is full duplex example?

Full duplex transmission mode is like a two-way
road, in which traffic can flow in both directions at the
same time. For example, in a telephone conversation, two
people communicate, and both are free to speak and listen
at the same time.

What is half-duplex example?

Duplex (telecommunications) - Wikipedia
In a half-duplex or semi duplex system, both parties can
communicate with each other, but not simultaneously; the
Tr WaiLin

communication is one direction at a time. An example of a

half-duplex device is a walkie-talkie, a two-way radio that
has a push-to-talk button.

21
Parity Check
• This type of error checking first requires a protocol to be agreed upon
between the sender device and receiver device.
• a parity check involves adding an additional binary bit (a 1 or a 0)
• to the end of a 7-bit byte to ensure that the number of 1 bits is either even
or odd.

22
Check Digits
• The check digit is an error check that is
designed to spot these human errors and is a
final number that is added to the end of a
numerical code. Check digits can be found on
barcodes and ISBN numbers on the back of
books.

25
Serial
One bit sent at a time // Bits sent sequentially
Over a single wire
Synchronous or asynchronous
Tr WaiLin

Parallel
Several bits sent at a time
Using many / multiple wires
Synchronous

26
Tr WaiLin

27
Serial
• Serial data transmission is more reliable over long
distances
• Less interference as only one wire
Tr WaiLin

• It is cheaper connection as only one wire is needed

• A fast connection is not required as a printer is limited by
the printing speed.

Description 1:
Data is transmitted several bits at
A time down several wires in both
Directions simultaneously

Description 2:
Data is transmitted in one direction
Only, one bit at a time, down a
Single wire

Description 3:
Data is transmitted in one bit at a time
Tr WaiLin

Down a single wire; the data

Is transmitted in both directions
But not at the same time.
