FACE DETECTION AND RECOGNITION

Presented by Navita chauhan

Introduction
Face detection and recognization is a computer technology that determines the location and size of human face in arbitrary ( digital ) image . It detects facial feature and ignore anything else . In short to identify it as a face and/or extract face images from it.

History Overview
First attempt in this area is in 1970 The first widely accepted algorithms and principles are PCA Eigen faces Pan and Scan effect ( Ken Burn effect )

The steps of Face Recognition

1. Face Detection (Feature extraction) 2. Face Normalization 3. Face Identification

Key Characteristics of the Recognition Systems

Types of face detection

Appearance based Method ( 2D , 3D Based ) Feature - based Method (PCA , LDA )

Fusion Method
LDA based This system is based on frequency and Spatial domain

Types of fusion

Conclusion
Don t have real time applications ( as it consume lots of time ) Not have high resistant to noise and disturbance application

Multi View Face System

It needs many complex applications of algorithms Voting method are used to recognize the image Some are Fast ICA . infoMax . Reduced computation process .

Multi view system

Intelligent Local Face

Use of neural network . Face image preprocessing prior to training or testing the neural network . To reduce the computational expense fuzzy logic is used .

Features

Face Image conditions

Similar lighting condition No physical obstruction Head pose is straight without rotation or tilting

Conclusions
Global face features based so take long duration for testing and running phase . Able to recognize 4 facial features

Optimal Face Image System

The system consists of four parts:
multi-route face image acquisition module multi-route face image detection module optimal face generation module Face recognition module.

Conclusions
Overcome the effects of face pose, expression, illumination and resolution, we selected 2D optimal face Cant be real time applications

2D and 3D Face recognization

2D
Less complex Less time Have real time applications Cant be run on 3D systems Feature based

3D
Need many allied system and very complex More time Don't have real time applications Cant be run on 2D Systems Appearance based

System types
1.. Curvature based algorithms 2.. Multimodal approaches 3.. Model-based method

Limitations
System effectiveness is highly dependant on image capture conditions

Variations in lighting conditions. Differences in System effectiveness is highly dependant on image capture conditions pose.
