Avoiding Waste

and helping the enviroment

Introduction
Global warming and climate change are the main
problems that the earth has been encountering in
recent years, threatening all living creatures on our
planet.

Resources like fossil fuels and water are

continuously required and rapidly consumed
nowadays. Wasting the earth’s resources is not
good for our lives nor for the environment, so we
need to open ourselves to a sustainable life. We
need to take the matter in our hands and stop
wasting resources like water and energy.

ways to decrease our schools consumption
Water
Finding ways to save water is very important! Another thing we can do is to maintain system and
One of the few things we can do to change the pipework, to check them regularly to ensure they are not
blocked, dirty or leaking. If necessary, they will get repaired.
current situation in our school is adding
We also need to upgrade or replace inefficient equipment in
sanitary installations with sensor. Sensor taps bathrooms.
are usually designed with a low flow rate and a
system that prevents leakage. A traditional
water tap can use up to 10-15 l of water/min,
while sensor taps can reduce the consumption
up to 30%.

Another benefit is that sensor taps are much

more hygienic because it is not required to
touch them at any point during the hand-
washing operation.
Lights
 Adding motions sensor lights is a benefic way of
saving energy, because the light will remain on
for a set amount of time following any detected
movement. Once a period of inactivity has
occurred, the motion sensor switch will turn the
lights off.

Greenhouse
 LED lighting bulbs produce less waste because
they are capable of turning about 70% of their
energy into light. LEDs are able to operate at a
significantly lower temperature than any other
type of light bulbs and they also have an
expended lifespan. So, if we were to replace all
of the bulbs in our school with LEDs, we would
save about 70-90% of the energy consumed.
Thermal insulation
Thermal insulation applied on a building
reduces the energy expenses by 50% on
average, ensures more heating with less energy
consumption in winter and prevents excessive
heat in summer. It also reduces heat movement
and vapor condensation, therefore it prevents
humidity mold, freezing that may occur in the
building.

Thermal insulated buildings reduce the fossil

fuels consumption such as coal and natural gas,
so the spreading of harmful greenhouse into the
atmosphere is minimized and the negative
effect on the ecological balance is reduced.
Solar panels

Solar panels use sunlight as a source of

energy to generate direct current electricity.
Solar power is a pollution free alternative
that causes no greenhouse gases to be
emitted after installation and it reduces the
dependence on fossil fuels. It is a
renewable energy source that also reduces
the electricity bills and is low-
maintenance.
